Flights Cancelled at Delhi Airport Amidst Thick Fog

Post by : Meena Hassan

On Wednesday, Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi faced major disruptions due to a dense layer of fog covering the area. A total of 78 incoming flights and 70 outgoing flights were cancelled, with two flights rerouted to different airports.

IndiGo, a domestic airline, issued a travel advisory to inform passengers of potential delays extending into the afternoon, linking the issues to the poor visibility affecting Delhi and other northern Indian airports. Flights operated by IndiGo to locations like Pantnagar and Dehradun were also affected.

The airline is working to ensure that departures and arrivals are being managed properly for the comfort of travelers. IndiGo personnel have been deployed throughout the airport to assist passengers as required.

Visibility improved by early afternoon, allowing smoother flight operations. The airport's official advisory urged passengers to keep updated with their airlines for the latest flight information, assuring that ground staff were available to assist in all terminals.

The dense fog enforced the use of CAT III instrument landing system procedures for managing flights, which can result in delays and cancellations. The airport expressed apologies for any distress caused and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting travelers amid challenging weather conditions.

Earlier, heavy fog significantly reduced visibility across Delhi and the National Capital Region, disrupting commuting and daily activities in crucial areas.

As the day progressed, visibility improved, contributing to the gradual stabilization of flight operations at one of India’s busiest airports.
