In a move to meet increasing travel demand ahead of the festive seasons, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has rolled out a notable travel initiative through Malaysia Airlines and Firefly. They will offer limited one-way base fares capped at RM499 across select routes in East Malaysia for Hari Raya Aidiladha, Kaamatan, and Gawai celebrations.
MAG has confirmed the operation of 62 additional flights by Malaysia Airlines, reaching popular destinations including Kota Bharu, Labuan, Tawau, Sandakan, Kuching, Sibu, and Miri. This step aims to facilitate travel for Malaysians who wish to celebrate these important cultural and religious occasions with their families.
The special fare offer is available for booking until May 31, 2026, and can be used for flights operating between May 26 and May 29 for selected services to Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Sandakan, and Tawau. Firefly routes to Kota Kinabalu and Tawau are also part of this festive promotion.
For those journeying to Sarawak, these promotional fares are valid for selected travel dates from May 28 to May 31. The offer includes Malaysia Airlines flights to Kuching, Miri, and Sibu, as well as certain Firefly routes to Kuching. This initiative aims to make festive travel more cost-effective during one of Malaysia’s busiest travel periods.
MAG reassured travelers that they will continue to enjoy benefits like free checked baggage, in-flight meals, and flexible change options regardless of the lowered prices. The comfort and satisfaction of passengers remain a top priority, even amidst peak travel seasons.
The features of the Flex fare offer from Malaysia Airlines include unlimited booking modifications, refundable fares based on conditions, up to 35 kilograms of checked baggage, seat selection, same-day flight changes, and the opportunity for upgrades through Enrich Points. Such features are designed to enhance travel flexibility during the festive period.
Meanwhile, Firefly's Flex fare package encompasses unlimited changes (subject to fare differences), 30 kilograms of baggage, free meals, seat selection, and priority boarding. Firefly operates from both Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport to enhance traveler connectivity.
Passengers using Malaysia Airlines can also enjoy through-checked baggage and complimentary meals during their connecting flights. MAG noted that it is implementing operational enhancements and streamlined processes to ensure smoother airport experiences and minimize delays during these festivities.
This initiative underscores Malaysia Aviation Group's dedication to linking communities nationwide while also supporting government schemes to make air travel more budget-friendly during these significant celebrations. Improving accessibility and ensuring reliable travel experiences are central to MAG's goals as families look forward to reuniting during the festive season.
