Qatar Foundation Strengthens US University Ties for Student Exchange Programs

Post by : Bianca Haleem

During the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference and Expo in Florida, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) entered into three new agreements for study-abroad initiatives with prominent American institutions.

The collaborations involve Hampton University in Virginia, Xavier University of Louisiana, and Prairie View A&M University in Texas. With the backing of the Qatari Embassy in Washington, D.C., these partnerships are aimed at bolstering academic ties and enhancing cultural interactions between students in the US and Qatar.

Qatar Foundation emphasizes that these agreements will open new avenues for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to study in Qatar, thereby experiencing the diverse educational offerings at Education City, which houses various internationally esteemed universities and institutions.

Francisco Marmolejo, President of Higher Education and Education Advisor at Qatar Foundation, noted that the agreements illustrate QF's dedication to establishing globally connected educational systems while promoting partnerships that support inclusivity, cultural exchanges, and academic excellence.

He expressed that hosting HBCU students at Education City will deepen classroom engagements, enhance global perspectives, and provide meaningful academic, cultural, and social experiences for both visiting and resident students. He also acknowledged the valuable support from the Qatari Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Abdulnassir Al Tamimi, Executive Director of Student Services in Qatar Foundation’s Higher Education division, remarked that the partnerships aim to offer enriching experiences beyond academics. He highlighted that visiting students and faculty will have the chance to immerse themselves in Qatar’s rich culture, customs, and multifaceted communities.

He added that the inclusion of HBCU students will positively impact the broader Qatar Foundation community by introducing fresh perspectives and cultural insights.

Robert Pompey, Senior Vice President for Business Operations and Finance at Hampton University, stated that this agreement symbolizes a mutual commitment to international education, cultural appreciation, and academic excellence. He emphasized the partnership's role in expanding global learning options for Hampton University students while enhancing educational experiences for HBCU attendees.

Marguerite Giguette, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Xavier University of Louisiana, expressed pride in collaborating with Qatar Foundation to create opportunities that enrich students' academic and cultural journeys.

Dr. Godlove Fonjweng, Assistant Vice Provost for Global Engagement and Partnerships at Prairie View A&M University, termed the agreement a significant step toward crafting transformative global learning experiences. He stated that the partnership reflects the university’s dedication to academic excellence, cultural exchanges, and equipping students for success in a tightly interconnected global landscape.

These new agreements mark a significant progression in educational collaboration between Qatar and the United States, providing students with invaluable international experiences and fostering deeper cross-cultural appreciation.
