Thailand Allocates RM80,000 to Malaysian Affected by Bomb Incident

Post by : Shakul

The Thai authorities have allocated 650,000 baht (around RM80,000) as compensation to one of the two Malaysians injured during the June 29 bomb incident in Tak Bai, Narathiwat province. This compensation underscores Thailand's dedication to aiding victims impacted by such violent events.

Officials conveyed their sorrow for the attack and reaffirmed their promise to uphold security in the southern border regions of the country.

Formal Presentation of Compensation

Narathiwat Governor Boonchuay Homyamyen formally presented the compensation cheque to Muhammad Yusri Udin at an event held at the Sungai Golok Customs Office.

This financial assistance originates from a Thai government relief fund aimed at supporting terrorism and security-related incident victims, which covers medical expenses, injuries, and damages to property when applicable.

Details of the Bomb Blast Incident

On June 29, an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a roadside drain detonated near Sapom junction in Tak Bai, resulting in injuries to Muhammad Yusri Udin, 38, and Abdullah Syarapi Abd Rahman, 45, who were passing through the area. Thai officials confirmed that the Malaysians were not the attack's intended targets.

Investigation and Immediate Actions

In the aftermath of the explosion, Thai security forces apprehended a 40-year-old suspect believed to have links to the bombing. Forensic examinations and bomb disposal measures were conducted at the site.

Security operations in southern Thailand have been heightened to avert further incidents and reassure both residents and visitors.

Reason for Providing Assistance

The Thai government provided this monetary aid as the Malaysian national was injured during the bomb incident that relates to public safety concerns. The assistance is in line with Thailand’s compensation scheme for the victims of violence and terrorism.

Summary of the Tak Bai Bombing

On June 29, an IED exploded near Sapom junction in Tak Bai, resulting in injuries to two Malaysian citizens. Investigators suspect the attack was insurgent-related but have confirmed that the Malaysians were not the intended audience of the attack.

Post-Attack Measures by Authorities

Thai security forces have launched an extensive investigation, captured a suspect, and initiated forensic and bomb disposal operations. Furthermore, they have increased patrols in the affected areas to enhance safety and restore reassurance for tourists and locals alike.

Government Assurance to Visitors

Thai officials have reiterated that public safety is of the highest priority and are actively working to reinforce security in Narathiwat and nearby areas. They plan to coordinate closely with security organizations to mitigate threats and safeguard both local inhabitants and international tourists.

The Thai government aspires to bolster confidence in cross-border travel and tourism through these enhanced safety measures.

The Tak Bai incident highlights persistent security issues in Thailand's southern border areas, where insurgent activity is not uncommon. The government maintains a victim compensation program while also focusing on strengthening law enforcement and emergency strategies.

Thailand and Malaysia are engaged in ongoing collaboration regarding border security, public safety, and managing cross-border movements. Authorities from both nations routinely coordinate to ensure the safety of citizens travelling between these countries while maintaining regional stability.

Status of Ongoing Monitoring

Officials confirmed that the investigation remains active to uncover the full circumstances of the bombing. Security agencies will persist in monitoring the locality, conducting preventive measures, and supporting victims as part of Thailand's wider commitment to public safety and regional security.
