Third Individual Charged in Case of Toronto Senior's Death

Post by : Shweta

In a significant development, Toronto police have apprehended a third person, now charged with first-degree murder, concerning the tragic death of a 79-year-old woman discovered in her apartment late last year.

This arrest contributes to the ongoing inquiry regarding Jolan Kun, whose body was found on December 9, 2025.

Emergency teams had responded to an apartment building near St. Clair Avenue West and Rushton Road after reports of a medical emergency. Officers soon arrived, only to find a woman declared dead on the scene.

Jolan Kun, aged 79 and a longtime resident of Toronto, was identified as the victim. As of now, law enforcement has withheld details about the cause of her death while pursuing further leads.

Earlier in January 2026, two suspects, Ashton Drysdale and Kaream Hines, both 38 and based in Toronto, were charged with first-degree murder in relation to this investigation.

Recently, authorities revealed the name of a third suspect: Andrew Christopher Matthews, 39, from Peterborough, known by the alternate name Andrew Christopher Chesson, who is now also charged with first-degree murder.

While further specifics regarding his alleged involvement have not been disclosed, information on his court date is yet to be announced.

First-degree murder, the gravest charge under Canadian law, signifies a planned and deliberate act. It is essential to remember that individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police not ruling out the potential for further arrests or charges as they continue collecting evidence for judicial proceedings.

The incident involving Jolan Kun has deeply affected the local community, drawing attention due to her age and the severity of the situation. With three individuals now implicated, the case is set to unfold within Ontario’s legal system over the upcoming months.

Stay tuned for further updates as legal proceedings progress and more details may come to light.
