The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will develop the Japan Culture Centre (JCC) as a landmark destination celebrating Japan’s cultural heritage and contemporary arts. The announcement was made at the UAE Pavilion during Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and international cooperation.
Vision and Purpose of the Centre
Conceived by Al Ahli Holding Group (AAHG), the centre aims to sustain Japan’s traditions while fostering dialogue between nations. It is presented as the UAE’s parting gift to Japan at the Expo, symbolizing friendship, respect, and shared purpose. The project highlights the UAE’s enduring philosophy of contributing to the betterment of humanity.
Leadership and Cultural Legacy
The initiative reflects the UAE’s leadership legacy, inspired by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and continued by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It represents the UAE’s ongoing commitment to cultural sustainability and fostering creativity globally.
Key Figures and Contributors
Shehab Ahmed Al Fahim, UAE Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, led the announcement. Present were creative visionaries Kengo Kuma, Paul Tanguay, Fumio Nanjo, and Toshio Shimizu, alongside Ali Alyammahi and Noora Alyammahi from Al Ahli Holding Group. Their collaboration underscores the fusion of cultural vision and architectural expertise in the project.
Platform for Cultural and Economic Exchange
Shehab Ahmed Al Fahim emphasized that the Japan Culture Centre will serve as a platform for cultural and economic exchange. It will honor and sustain traditions while promoting innovation and collaboration for generations to come, reflecting the shared values of respect, openness, and cooperation between the UAE and Japan.
Part of the Multiverse Project
The Japan Culture Centre is a key component of Al Ahli Holding Group’s Multiverse Project, an ecosystem integrating art, design, education, and sustainability. The centre will form the cultural heart of this larger initiative, bringing together global creativity and heritage in one dynamic space.
Mohammed Khammas, Group CEO of Al Ahli Holding Group, said the centre embodies the belief that while buildings may fade over time, culture, artistry, and friendship endure across generations. The project aims to inspire continued collaboration, understanding, and cultural enrichment between the UAE, Japan, and the world.
The Japan Culture Centre will host exhibitions, performances, educational programs, and cultural exchanges. It will act as a bridge connecting both nations’ traditions while fostering global appreciation for Japanese art, innovation, and heritage.
