The United Arab Emirates (UAE) officially inaugurated the Zayed National Museum today in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District. The event was part of the UAE’s 54th Eid Al Etihad celebrations and was attended by members of the Supreme Council, rulers, crown princes, and senior officials. The museum honors the life and achievements of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father.
The museum tells the story of the UAE and its people, from ancient times to the present, through advanced technology, visual storytelling, artefacts, and historical items. Its architecture is inspired by the wings of a falcon, symbolizing the nation’s ambitions and strong connection to its cultural heritage and environment.
H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan described the museum as a tribute to Sheikh Zayed’s leadership, vision, and humanitarian values. He emphasized that it links the UAE’s past, present, and future, giving people a chance to explore the country’s culture, traditions, and achievements across generations.
During the inauguration, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and other attending rulers toured the museum galleries. The exhibits include personal belongings of Sheikh Zayed, documents, photographs, audio recordings, archival footage, and archaeological artefacts. The museum has over 3,000 pieces, with 1,500 currently on display, each highlighting the UAE’s rich history and the journey of its people.
The museum features six permanent galleries. Our Beginning showcases Sheikh Zayed’s life and the unification of the Emirates. Through Our Nature explores the UAE’s natural landscapes and sustainable living. To Our Ancestors presents archaeological finds showing thousands of years of human civilization. Through Our Connections highlights early communities, science, and technology. By Our Coasts celebrates the nation’s maritime traditions. To Our Roots focuses on Emirati customs, values, and historical economic activities.
The museum has a space for temporary exhibitions and the Al Masar Garden, a 600-meter-long open-air gallery showcasing the UAE’s landscapes and historical stories. A cultural program has been launched with live performances, interactive workshops, guided tours, and activities for visitors of all ages. This allows everyone to engage with the UAE’s history and heritage in an enjoyable and educational way.
The Zayed National Museum stands as a landmark reflecting the UAE’s achievements and aspirations. It preserves Sheikh Zayed’s legacy while inspiring future generations to uphold the values, culture, and vision that shaped the nation. The museum provides both residents and visitors a unique opportunity to connect with the UAE’s past and understand its path to modernity.
