FNC Speaker Meets Japan Ambassador to Boost Relations

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), welcomed Ken Okaniwa, the Ambassador of Japan to the UAE, at the FNC headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting reflected the strong and friendly relationship between the two countries, which continues to grow under the guidance of their leaderships.

The discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and Japan in various fields. Both sides praised the long-standing diplomatic relationship that has connected the two nations for over five decades since the establishment of formal ties in 1972.

Celebrating a Historic Partnership

During the meeting, Ghobash highlighted the depth and importance of the UAE-Japan partnership. He said that relations between the two nations have grown stronger over the years, particularly in political, economic, and cultural areas.

He added that Japan is a valued partner of the UAE, with both countries sharing similar values of respect, cooperation, and mutual understanding. This partnership, he emphasized, serves as a model for strong international relations based on trust and shared goals.

Cooperation Through Parliamentary Diplomacy

Ghobash underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a bridge to deepen cooperation between nations. He pointed out that the Federal National Council (FNC) plays an active role in international diplomacy through meetings, visits, and participation in global parliamentary events.

He also stressed the need to exchange expertise and experiences between the UAE’s FNC and Japan’s House of Representatives and House of Councillors. Such exchanges, he said, will help strengthen institutional cooperation and contribute to advancing shared legislative and development goals.

Commending Japan’s Global Achievements

During the meeting, Ghobash congratulated Japan on its preparations to host Expo 2025 in Osaka. He said the global event will further highlight Japan’s leadership in innovation, technology, and sustainable development.

He praised Japan’s commitment to hosting global events that promote collaboration among nations, noting that the UAE looks forward to working with Japan in supporting the success of the Expo.

Japan Praises UAE’s Parliamentary Diplomacy

In response, Ambassador Ken Okaniwa expressed his appreciation for the Federal National Council’s dynamic role in international and regional diplomacy. He said that the FNC’s active engagement in global forums demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and peace.

Okaniwa praised the growing relationship between the two nations and reaffirmed Japan’s readiness to expand cooperation in key areas, including technology, renewable energy, education, and culture.

Building on Shared Values and Future Goals

The ambassador noted that both Japan and the UAE share a common vision of progress and sustainability. He expressed hope that the partnership between the two countries will continue to thrive, supported by regular parliamentary meetings and exchanges.

He also said that the UAE’s achievements in innovation, renewable energy, and global diplomacy are admired in Japan. He added that both sides are keen to collaborate on future-oriented projects that benefit their peoples and contribute to global development.

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthen cooperation. They agreed that UAE-Japan relations are built on mutual respect, shared interests, and a strong desire to promote global stability and prosperity.

The exchange between Saqr Ghobash and Ken Okaniwa once again highlighted the value of parliamentary diplomacy in deepening bilateral ties. It showcased how strong communication between legislative bodies can enhance broader national relationships and contribute to achieving mutual development goals.
