The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, has achieved something truly special. It has now welcomed two million visitors since it opened in April 2025. This is a big moment for the UAE team at the Expo and shows how popular and loved their pavilion is among people from all over the world.

To mark this amazing achievement, the Pavilion team organized a beautiful and emotional celebration. They chose to honor Japan’s Tanabata Festival, a traditional event filled with hope, dreams, and wishes. The celebration showed how the UAE values cultural exchange and how it respects and connects with the traditions of the host country, Japan.

What is Tanabata, and why was it chosen?

Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival, is a well-known Japanese tradition that celebrates love, hope, and dreams. During this festival, people write their wishes on colorful paper strips called Tanzaku and then hang them on bamboo branches. The belief is that these wishes will go up to the sky and come true.

The UAE Pavilion wanted to honor this tradition and give visitors a chance to participate in something deeply meaningful. But instead of using bamboo, the pavilion used palm leaves, which are important in UAE culture. Palm trees, especially date palms, are a symbol of life, heritage, and sustainability in the UAE.

So, during the celebration, visitors were invited to write their wishes on special Tanzaku cards and hang them on the palm branches at the Pavilion. This beautiful act created a garden of dreams and hopes, with thousands of colorful wishes swaying in the wind. It turned the outdoor space of the Pavilion into a lively and peaceful place full of meaning.

Why This Milestone Matters

Having two million visitors in such a short time shows how interested people are in the UAE’s story. The Pavilion has become a popular place for learning, conversation, and inspiration. It is not just about technology or displays—it is about sharing values, traditions, and ideas.

The celebration also showed how the UAE Pavilion is more than just a building. It is a living, breathing space where people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds can come together to share dreams for a better future.

This event during the Tanabata Festival perfectly captured the pavilion’s spirit—full of love, connection, and forward-thinking.

A Message from the UAE Ambassador to Japan

Shihab Alfaheem, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Japan and the Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion, shared his joy and gratitude. He said,

“We are deeply honored to have welcomed two million visitors to the UAE Pavilion. This reflects the world’s interest, trust, and connection with the UAE’s journey. By celebrating this milestone during Tanabata, we not only honored a cherished Japanese tradition but also embraced the spirit of cultural exchange that defines Expo 2025. Our Pavilion continues to be a living space of ideas, creativity, and shared values.”

His words highlight how important this moment is, not just for the numbers, but for what it represents—trust, connection, and friendship between nations.
