UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received a phone call from Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who thanked the UAE for its ongoing support to people affected by severe floods and heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan leader expressed deep appreciation for the UAE’s quick response and assistance during this difficult time.
During the conversation, Sheikh Mohamed offered his sincere condolences to President Dissanayake and to the people of Sri Lanka for the lives lost due to the floods. He conveyed his sympathy to the families of the victims and wished the country safety, strength, and recovery as it works to overcome the impact of the disaster.
The UAE’s support reflects its long-standing approach of standing by nations facing humanitarian crises. The country believes in providing fast and effective help to reduce suffering and help communities rebuild their lives after natural disasters. This approach has guided the UAE’s actions in many parts of the world over the years.
After the floods struck Sri Lanka, the UAE immediately launched emergency relief operations through its national humanitarian institutions. These efforts were coordinated by the Joint Operations Command along with the UAE Agency for International Aid and the Emirates Red Crescent, ensuring that help reached affected areas without delay.
Search and rescue missions were carried out in the most damaged regions by teams from Abu Dhabi Civil Defence. These teams worked on the ground to help people trapped by floodwaters and to support local emergency services during critical rescue operations.
In addition to rescue efforts, the UAE sent essential relief supplies, including food items and emergency shelter materials, to support displaced families. These supplies aimed to meet urgent needs and provide temporary relief to those who lost their homes due to the floods.
The UAE’s continued assistance highlights its commitment to humanitarian values and international cooperation. By supporting Sri Lanka during this crisis, the UAE once again demonstrated its readiness to help countries in need and contribute to stability and recovery during challenging times.
