Residents living along the UAE's eastern coastline woke up to pleasant weather on Friday as light to moderate rain fell across parts of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan. The rainfall brought cooler temperatures and mist-covered mountain views, creating a refreshing change from the usual summer conditions.
Although the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) had predicted mostly fair weather across the country, rainfall developed over areas close to the Hajar Mountains, offering a welcome break from the heat.
The showers transformed parts of the eastern coast with low clouds and noticeably cooler weather. Mountain landscapes were covered in mist, giving the region an autumn-like appearance despite it being the middle of summer.
The NCM had forecast generally clear skies across the UAE, while expecting only low clouds over the eastern coast and warmer temperatures in inland areas.
According to the NCM, the rainfall was caused by the seasonal formation of Al Marawih convective clouds over the Hajar Mountains. This weather pattern regularly develops during summer when moist air from the Sea of Oman moves inland.

As the humid air rises over the mountains, it cools and forms towering cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds are capable of producing thunderstorms and localized rainfall in nearby areas.
Meteorologists said Al Marawih clouds were expected to become more active over the Hajar Mountain range and surrounding border areas during the afternoon. The weather system had the potential to produce isolated thundery showers in some locations.
The National Center of Meteorology said winds across the UAE would remain light to moderate, becoming fresh at times. Sea conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman were expected to stay slight throughout the day.
