UAE Hosts GCC Higher Education Delegation to Share Expertise

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) recently welcomed a delegation from the higher education ministries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. This visit follows the outcomes of the 24th Meeting of GCC Ministers of Higher Education held in Doha, Qatar last year. The goal is to encourage regular visits between member countries to share experience, learn best practices, and improve higher education systems and international rankings.

The visiting delegation included officials from academic accreditation bodies, universities, and planning and development authorities across the GCC. During their visit, several strategic initiatives of the UAE were reviewed, highlighting efforts to advance the higher education sector. Key projects included the development of the National Qualifications Recognition System, which simplifies processes, enhances data quality, and enables digital integration across institutions.

MoHESR also showcased its steps to fight academic fraud using digital monitoring and proactive surveillance, ensuring student protection and the quality of education. Discussions included updates on global university rankings and the UAE’s outcome-based evaluation framework, which links higher education results with labor market needs, focusing on research and skill development.

The itinerary featured visits to Khalifa University and Mohamed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), giving the delegation a first-hand view of UAE’s innovative education and advanced scientific research. This visit demonstrates the GCC countries’ commitment to stronger collaboration, sharing knowledge, and preparing the next generation to lead the region’s development.
