US Strikes Dozens of IRGC Targets After Iran Missile Attempt

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The United States carried out a large wave of military strikes against Iran late on July 29 after what it described as an attempted missile attack by Iranian forces on U.S. personnel stationed in the Middle East.

According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation was completed successfully at 10 p.m. ET on July 29. The strikes were launched in response to the attempted ballistic missile attack that took place a day earlier.

CENTCOM Targets IRGC Military Infrastructure

CENTCOM said its forces struck dozens of targets linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) across Iran. The operation focused on military facilities and infrastructure considered important to Iran's military capabilities.

The targets included military command centres, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defence sites, and maritime capabilities.

Operation Aimed at Reducing Regional Threats

According to CENTCOM, the strikes were intended to further reduce threats posed by Iran and its affiliated groups to American military personnel, commercial shipping routes, and neighbouring Gulf countries.

The command stated that the operation was designed to weaken Iran's ability to carry out future attacks against U.S. forces and regional security interests.

Iran's Missile Attack Was Fully Intercepted

CENTCOM said that on July 28, IRGC forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in what it described as an attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East.

The military said all of the missiles were successfully intercepted, and no missiles reached their intended targets.

More Than 50,000 US Troops Remain on Alert

CENTCOM confirmed that more than 50,000 U.S. service members are currently deployed across the Middle East.

The command added that American forces remain highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready as they continue their missions across the region.
