US Launches Strikes on Over 80 Iranian Targets After Ship Attacks

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces carried out a new round of offensive strikes against Iran on July 7. According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted more than 80 locations using precision-guided munitions. The strikes were launched in immediate response to Iran's latest attacks on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Military Targets Included Air Defenses and Missile Systems

CENTCOM said the operation focused on several key military assets across Iran. The targets included Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, and anti-ship missile capabilities.

The command also stated that U.S. forces struck more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small boats operating in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

Purpose of the Operation

According to CENTCOM, the objective of the strikes was to reduce Iran's ability to continue attacks on international commercial shipping moving through the Strait of Hormuz. The command described the waterway as an important international trade corridor.

Commercial Vessels Named by CENTCOM

CENTCOM said Iran had recently attacked three commercial vessels while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels identified in the statement were:

  • Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat
  • Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan
  • Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity

CENTCOM Calls Vessel Attacks a Ceasefire Violation

The command described the attacks on the commercial ships as unwarranted aggression by Iranian forces. It said the incidents represented a clear and dangerous violation of the ceasefire and undermined freedom of navigation in the international trade route.

US Says Forces Remain Ready

CENTCOM said U.S. forces remain deployed and prepared to hold Iran accountable if the ceasefire agreement is not respected. The statement did not provide any additional information regarding damage assessments or casualties resulting from the strikes.
