In Kuala Lumpur, the Magistrate’s Court has issued arrest warrants for three individuals, including the sons of the late Malaysian finance minister, Daim Zainuddin, after they evaded several investigation notices from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The warrants are for Muhammed Amir Zainuddin, 31, Muhammed Amin Zainuddin, 28, and business associate Josephine Premla. Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan approved the prosecution's request upon confirming that the trio was aware of the notices yet willfully failed to attend the questioning.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat disclosed that the MACC had issued multiple notices under Section 30 of the MACC Act. The first notice, issued on February 13, 2026, demanded their presence the next day. Despite the court recognizing the short notice, it noted the individuals were informed by their legal counsel shortly thereafter.
Afterward, MACC offered an extension and set a new date for March 11, 2026, giving nearly three weeks for compliance. However, on March 9, their defense indicated they could not attend and requested to reschedule for March 30.
Even after accommodating this change, MACC set a final deadline of April 6, 2026, for the trio to appear, but they once again failed to show up. Their lawyer sent a letter on April 4 stating they would be unavailable and asked for another delay until July 2026.
The court found that the defendants' continual delays justified the issuance of arrest warrants. Magistrate Khalizan emphasized that they had ample notice and chances to comply but chose not to act.
In a related pursuit, MACC has suggested potential international action, even considering an international Red Notice, for the ongoing lack of cooperation from Daim’s sons in this investigation.
For now, a temporary reprieve has been granted; the court allowed a stay on the execution of the warrants as requested by defense lawyer Nizamuddin Hamid until they formally challenge the warrants at the High Court.
This case attracts considerable attention in Malaysia due to Daim Zainuddin's significant political and financial history, reflecting ongoing efforts to ensure accountability in prominent corruption investigations.
