5 Warning Signs Indicating Nutrient Deficiency

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

The human body sends clear signals when it's undernourished, yet many individuals overlook these subtle signs as minor issues. Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist with credentials from AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford, recently shared insightful observations on Instagram regarding five indicators that suggest your body requires additional nutrients.

The first indicator is brittle nails. When nails are prone to breakage or appear weak, it might signify a deficiency in protein and iron. Protein is crucial for tissue repair, while iron is essential for oxygen transport in the bloodstream. A prolonged lack of these nutrients can lead to fragile nails.

The second sign involves twitching eyelids or limbs. This recurrent muscle twitching may point to inadequate magnesium levels, which are vital for the optimal functioning of nerves and muscles. Insufficient magnesium can lead to heightened nerve sensitivity and cause twitching.

The third sign is the occurrence of clicking noises in the joints. While many believe joint sounds are commonplace, they can also indicate a deficiency in vitamin D3 or calcium, both of which are critical for bone strength. Low levels may result in weakened joints, accompanied by audible sounds during movement.

The fourth sign discussed by Dr. Sethi is early greying of hair. Although genetics play a role, early onset greying can also stem from deficiencies in vitamin B12 or copper. Vitamin B12 is vital for healthy blood cells that supply oxygen to hair roots, while copper is necessary for melanin production, the pigment responsible for hair color. Low levels can lead to premature greying.

The fifth sign is bruising easily. If you find yourself with bruises from mild pressure or minor bumps, it could signal insufficient levels of vitamin C or vitamin K1. Vitamin C is essential for collagen formation, which strengthens skin and tissues, while vitamin K1 plays a key role in blood clotting. Lack of these nutrients can result in fragile skin and easy bruising.

These signs may seem trivial, but they warrant attention as they can serve as early indicators that your body might benefit from a well-rounded diet rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Foods such as leafy greens, nuts, fruits, dairy products, eggs, and whole grains can naturally boost your nutritional intake.

Nonetheless, it’s imperative to recognize that this information is intended for general awareness. Anyone seeing these signs should consult a healthcare professional for accurate medical guidance. Self-diagnosing or consuming supplements without proper supervision may pose risks.
