5 Key Practices a Heart Surgeon Avoids for a Healthy Heart

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Heart failure, often dubbed the silent killer, can creep up on individuals without any visible symptoms until a serious issue emerges. It’s crucial to maintain heart health daily, even when feeling fine.

Dr. Dmitry Yaranov, a renowned cardiologist and heart transplant surgeon, recently shared five habits he's careful to avoid to look after his heart. In a video released on November 14, his straightforward message highlights that minor adjustments today can ensure a robust heart for years to come.

1. Don’t overlook your blood pressure
Dr. Yaranov emphasizes that high blood pressure can be perilous since it often has no early indicators. One might feel perfectly normal yet remain at risk. He recommends regular blood pressure checks for everyone.

2. Consistent exercise is crucial
He compares the heart to any muscle: it weakens without use. Just 30 minutes of daily activity can significantly impact health. Walking, biking, or basic home workouts can all contribute positively.

3. Steer clear of ultra-processed foods
The doctor warns that overly processed and packaged foods can trigger inflammation and raise cholesterol levels, gradually harming the heart. Instead, he advocates for whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and fresh meals.

4. Prioritize good sleep
Dr. Yaranov insists that restful sleep is vital for cardiovascular health. Lack of quality sleep, or conditions such as sleep apnea, can elevate blood pressure and heighten heart failure risks. He aims for consistent sleep patterns each night.

5. Adhere to preventive medications
If a physician prescribes medications such as statins or blood pressure pills, Dr. Yaranov asserts their importance. These medications play a crucial role in averting severe heart issues and can be lifesaving.

He conveys that heart issues don’t arise overnight; they develop silently over years due to unhealthy habits. By making small daily changes, like enhancing movement, improving diet, ensuring proper sleep, and taking prescribed medications, anyone can bolster their heart health and longevity.
