Abu Dhabi DoE Starts Summer Energy Safety Campaign

Abu Dhabi DoE Starts Summer Energy Safety Campaign

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has launched a new public awareness campaign called "Your Safety is Our Priority." This campaign is part of the DoE’s efforts to protect people and promote the safe and responsible use of electricity and gas, especially during the hot summer season.

The campaign is meant for everyone in the community, including individuals, families, companies, and business owners. It aims to educate people on how to stay safe while using energy at home and at work.

Why the Campaign Was Launched

In the summer, temperatures in Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE rise very high. This leads to a higher use of air conditioners, fans, and other electrical equipment. People also use gas appliances more often in both homes and commercial kitchens.

Because of this increased usage, the chances of electric shocks, short circuits, gas leaks, and other energy-related accidents also go up. To prevent such problems and keep people safe, the Department of Energy decided to start this campaign.

They believe that the best way to reduce risks is through awareness and education. By learning how to use energy safely, people can protect themselves, their families, their homes, and their businesses.

What the DoE Officials Said

Engineer Ahmed Alsayed Mohamed Sheebani, who is the Executive Director of the Regulatory Affairs for Petroleum Products at the DoE, explained the main purpose of the campaign.

He said, “Safety in using energy sources like electricity and gas is one of the most important parts of our energy laws. With this campaign, we want to help the public learn best practices. We want everyone to follow safer habits when using energy. This supports Abu Dhabi’s long-term goal of building a clean, safe, and reliable energy sector that helps both people and the environment.”

He also said that working together with the community is very important. If the public and the government both take responsibility, then accidents can be avoided more easily. Everyone has a role to play in energy safety.

Engineer Abdul Rahman Al-Alawi, who is the Health, Safety, and Environment Director at the DoE, also shared his thoughts.

He said, “In the summer, using electricity and gas becomes more difficult. People use air conditioners, refrigerators, fans, and water heaters more often. This puts more pressure on the power supply and gas systems. If people don’t use them carefully, it can lead to dangerous situations.”

He added, “Our job at the Department of Energy is to create a safe and sustainable environment. This campaign is part of our duty to help people stay safe. We want to make safety a part of everyday life in Abu Dhabi. It’s not just the government’s job – everyone must work together.”

He also stressed that the campaign is designed in simple language so that everyone can understand. He said, “Prevention starts with knowledge. That’s why we’re sharing easy-to-follow tips and real advice that people can use right away.”

What the Campaign Includes

The campaign will be carried out using different channels and activities so that its message can reach as many people as possible.

Here’s what the campaign includes:

  • Digital materials: Posters, videos, and safety tips will be shared on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter (X), Facebook, and the DoE website.

  • Daily energy safety tips: Every day, useful advice will be posted to help people use electricity and gas more safely.

  • Workshops and visits: The DoE will organize workshops in schools, offices, residential buildings, and malls. They will also work with public and private sector partners to hold events and information sessions.

  • Community outreach: The campaign team will visit different areas in Abu Dhabi to talk directly with people and distribute brochures.

The goal is to make sure people know how to:

  • Safely use electrical appliances like air conditioners, ovens, and washing machines

  • Check gas connections and report leaks

  • Avoid overloading plugs and sockets

  • Store and use gas cylinders correctly

  • Turn off unused electrical devices

  • Use certified products and avoid cheap or fake ones

The campaign will continue throughout the summer and will be updated regularly with new safety content.

Public Participation is Important

The DoE is asking all residents and business owners in Abu Dhabi to support and take part in the campaign.

They are encouraging people to:

  • Follow the DoE’s social media pages

  • Share safety posts with friends and family

  • Attend workshops and events

  • Apply the safety tips in their homes and workplaces

They reminded everyone that safety is a team effort. It starts with small steps at home but should continue in every building, office, school, restaurant, and construction site.

Even simple actions like checking your wires, not overloading sockets, or turning off the AC when not needed can prevent accidents and save energy.

What the DoE Hopes to Achieve

The main aim of the campaign is to reduce accidents and increase awareness about energy safety in Abu Dhabi. But it also supports bigger goals like:

  • Using energy more responsibly

  • Helping the environment by avoiding waste

  • Reducing hospital visits caused by gas or electricity accidents

  • Building a culture of safety that lasts year-round

The DoE believes that with this campaign, people in Abu Dhabi will feel more confident and informed about how to use energy safely. They hope it leads to fewer emergency incidents during the summer and beyond.

Safety First, Together

The “Your Safety is Our Priority” campaign is a strong step toward protecting people and property in Abu Dhabi. It shows that the Department of Energy is not only thinking about power supply but also about public health, safety, and education.

By working together—residents, workers, business owners, and government authorities—Abu Dhabi can become a model for safe and smart energy use.

The Department of Energy is inviting everyone to stay updated, follow the campaign, and make safety part of their daily routine.
