Ahmed Al Jarwan Joins Azerbaijan Constitution Ceremony

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, led a delegation from the Council to participate in the International Parliamentary Conference in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The conference was organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a landmark moment in the country’s modern history. The event gathered more than twenty delegations representing national parliaments and international organizations, reflecting global respect for Azerbaijan’s democratic progress.

In his speech during the conference, Al Jarwan described the anniversary as a historic milestone that reflects Azerbaijan’s continued commitment to building a strong and just society. He praised the nation’s constitution for embedding the principles of justice, independence, tolerance, and human dignity. He said these core values serve as the foundation for the country’s development and unity, guiding its people toward lasting peace and prosperity.

Al Jarwan extended his heartfelt congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev, Dr. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly), and to the friendly people of Azerbaijan. He applauded their dedication to national progress and the preservation of cultural harmony. He also commended Azerbaijan’s continuous role in fostering intercultural dialogue and protecting human rights, describing these efforts as a true reflection of the nation’s spirit of tolerance and peace.

Al Jarwan highlighted the strong connection between Azerbaijan’s constitutional values and the mission of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace. The Council, through its International Parliament and General Assembly, works to promote understanding and harmony among nations. He mentioned that the Council collaborates with over 100 countries and parliaments, as well as 60 academic institutions and global organizations, to spread education and awareness about peace, coexistence, and respect for diversity.

Al Jarwan also emphasized the close cooperation between the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. This partnership was strengthened through a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024, aimed at enhancing parliamentary collaboration and sharing expertise. The agreement includes initiatives to promote tolerance, empower youth and women, and support interfaith and intercultural dialogue. This cooperation continues to advance mutual goals of building societies based on understanding and shared human values.

As part of his official visit, Al Jarwan and his delegation paid a solemn visit to the Baku Memorial, also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There, they laid a wreath in honor of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s freedom and independence. The delegation also visited Martyrs’ Lane, a symbolic site that embodies the courage and resilience of the Azerbaijani people. This gesture underscored the Council’s respect for national sacrifices and its commitment to peace and remembrance.

Through his participation, Al Jarwan reaffirmed the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace’s dedication to supporting international initiatives that strengthen dialogue, equality, and mutual respect among nations. He emphasized that the values enshrined in Azerbaijan’s constitution—justice, tolerance, and human dignity—are the same principles that the Council promotes globally. The visit not only celebrated a constitutional anniversary but also highlighted a shared vision for a peaceful and united world.
