GCC Welcomes Doha Peace Deal Supporting Congo Stability Efforts

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Jassem Mohammed Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, has welcomed the signing of the Doha Framework Agreement for Peace between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo River Alliance. He described this agreement as an important step that brings new hope for peace, stability, and development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to him, this achievement reflects a serious commitment from all sides to end conflict and move toward a better future for the Congolese people.

Albudaiwi praised the strong role played by the State of Qatar in making this agreement possible. Qatar hosted the negotiations, supported the dialogue between the two sides, and helped create an environment where discussions could be held peacefully and openly. The Secretary-General said Qatar’s efforts were significant and valuable, showing once again that the country is committed to regional and international stability. He explained that Qatar’s role reflects its constant belief that problems can be solved through peaceful discussions and cooperation rather than through violence or tension.

He also pointed out that Qatar has a long history of supporting peace efforts around the world. By hosting this negotiation process, Qatar proved once again that it is willing to invest time, resources, and diplomatic effort to help resolve difficult conflicts. According to Albudaiwi, Qatar’s involvement is an example of how nations can contribute to global peace and security, even when the conflict is taking place far from their own region. This active role strengthens Qatar’s reputation as a country that values diplomacy and peaceful solutions.

The agreement signed in Doha is expected to play an important role in building trust between the Congolese government and the Congo River Alliance. For many years, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has faced internal tensions and violence that have impacted millions of people. Communities have been displaced, economic development has been slowed, and peace has been difficult to achieve. Albudaiwi expressed hope that the new agreement will change this situation by opening the door to reconciliation and cooperation between different groups in the country.

He added that the Gulf Cooperation Council supports all international efforts aimed at ending conflict and supporting development. The GCC believes that peace is necessary for economic progress and social growth, not only in the Congo but in every region affected by conflict. Stability, according to Albudaiwi, brings opportunities for education, healthcare, jobs, and prosperity. Without peace, these goals become difficult to reach. Therefore, the GCC views every peace agreement as a step toward a more secure and positive future.

The Secretary-General also stressed that the success of the Doha Agreement will depend on the commitment of all parties involved. Signing the agreement is only the first step. The next steps require trust, cooperation, and honest implementation of what was agreed upon. He said he hopes that the Congolese parties will continue to work together, follow the terms of the agreement, and ensure that the people of the country benefit from lasting peace.

Albudaiwi believes that this agreement can help the Democratic Republic of the Congo move forward after years of conflict. If the agreement is carried out successfully, it could help bring political unity, support national development plans, and improve security across the country. He expressed confidence that the international community, including the GCC member states, will continue supporting efforts that promote peace and stability in the Congo.

In his statement, Albudaiwi repeated his appreciation for Qatar’s diplomatic efforts and hospitality during the negotiation process. He said that the Doha Framework Agreement shows the importance of dialogue and cooperation between nations. By bringing together different sides and guiding them toward a peaceful solution, Qatar demonstrated what can be achieved when countries work together with sincerity and purpose.

The Secretary-General concluded by saying that he remains hopeful that this agreement will mark the beginning of a new era of peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He encouraged all parties to remain committed and use this opportunity to build a safer, more stable, and more united nation for the future generations of the Congolese people.
