On Sunday, Andhra Pradesh witnessed two disastrous road accidents that claimed the lives of six individuals and left sixteen more injured. These incidents unfolded on busy highways, involving a variety of vehicles including a Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV), a private bus, and trucks, prompting an urgent response from local authorities.
First Incident in Srikakulam: Four Pilgrims Perish in MUV Collision
The initial tragedy struck in the Srikakulam district, near Yetturallapadu village in Kotabommali mandal, early on Sunday morning. A Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) carrying pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh collided with a stationary truck. The group had been en route to Srisailam temple after visiting Puri in Odisha.
Preliminary police inquiries suggest that the MUV driver may have dozed off, which led to the unfortunate crash. The impact killed four devotees instantly. The deceased have been identified as Santoshi Bai (62), Vijay Singh Tomar (65), Singh Pawar (60), and Kusal Singh (62).
Of the sixteen passengers in the MUV, many sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Narsannapet government hospital for emergency medical care. Authorities are still delving into the specific circumstances surrounding this accident.
Subsequent Incident in Nandyal: Bus Hits Two Trucks, Two Passengers Killed
On the same day, another catastrophic accident unfolded in Nandyal district, near Perayapalem village in Allagadda mandal. A private bus traveling from Hyderabad to Puducherry collided with two trucks, first hitting one and then being struck from behind by another.
This collision was particularly fatal, with two passengers seated at the rear of the bus dying instantly. Ten other bus passengers suffered injuries, four of whom are in critical condition. Emergency teams swiftly reached the scene to aid the injured and control the aftermath.
Local authorities have initiated a probe into the factors leading to this tragic collision, reviewing driver accounts, vehicle condition, and safety protocols to understand what occurred.
Raising Safety Concerns with Ongoing Investigations
These accidents have ignited discussions on road safety and the importance of maintaining driver alertness on Andhra Pradesh's bustling highways. Indicators point towards fatigue and potential human error as contributing factors, especially in the MUV collision. Authorities are advising drivers to take adequate rest breaks during long trips.
The Andhra Pradesh police and highway patrol continue to thoroughly investigate both incidents to piece together the full story and ensure accountability. Medical teams are actively caring for the injured, while local officials are providing support to the families of the deceased.
