Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh created history on Friday by becoming the first Indian cricketer to claim 100 wickets in T20 internationals. The 26-year-old reached this landmark during India’s final group-stage match against Oman in the Asia Cup 2025, played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The achievement has been widely celebrated by cricket fans and experts alike, marking Arshdeep’s rise as a key figure in India’s T20 bowling lineup.
Record-Breaking Dismissal Against Oman
Arshdeep Singh’s milestone came in the 20th over of Oman’s innings. He bowled a short ball to Vinayak Shukla, who mistimed a pull shot that was safely caught by substitute fielder Rinku Singh. With this wicket, Arshdeep became the fastest Indian fast bowler to reach 100 T20I wickets, achieving the feat in just 64 matches. His disciplined bowling and tactical approach were key in building pressure on the Omani batsmen throughout the match.
Standing Among the World’s Fastest Bowlers
On a global level, only Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who achieved the milestone in 53 matches, and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who did it in 63 matches, reached 100 T20I wickets faster than Arshdeep. His 100 wickets have come at an impressive average of 18.49 since making his debut three years ago. Arshdeep has now also surpassed Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, who required 71 games to achieve the same milestone, highlighting his consistency and skill on the international stage.
Hardik Pandya Matches Chahal’s Record
India’s celebrations did not stop with Arshdeep. Hardik Pandya moved level with Yuzvendra Chahal as India’s joint second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is. Pandya dismissed Oman’s Hammad Mirza for 51 runs with a precise short-ball delivery, bringing his career tally to 96 wickets in 117 matches at an average of 26.61. Pandya’s performance underscores his importance as a versatile all-rounder capable of influencing matches in both bowling and batting departments.
Significance for India’s T20I Team
The milestones achieved by Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya reflect India’s depth in bowling and all-round capabilities in T20 cricket. Arshdeep’s rise as a frontline fast bowler and Pandya’s consistent contributions provide India with crucial options in international competitions. Their performances are expected to boost team morale ahead of the Asia Cup Super Four stage, as well as future T20 World Cups.
Fan and Expert Reactions
Cricket fans and analysts lauded Arshdeep Singh’s consistency and tactical brilliance. Many highlighted his ability to perform under pressure and in diverse conditions, making him a vital asset for India. Experts also praised Pandya’s all-round excellence, emphasizing that both players’ milestones are significant achievements for Indian cricket’s growing T20 legacy.
Looking Ahead in the Asia Cup 2025
With Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya in fine form, India heads into the crucial Super Four matches with confidence. Their contributions not only set records but also enhance India’s prospects of winning the tournament and reinforcing the country’s dominance in the T20I format.
