Turkmenistan Completes High-Speed Highway Linking Ashgabat

Post by : Shakul

Turkmenistan has reached a significant landmark in its infrastructural progression with the inauguration of the Ashgabat–Turkmenistan high-speed highway. The ceremonial opening of the Mary–Turkmenistan section, attended by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, officially indicates the project's completion.

At the ceremony, President Berdimuhamedov stressed that upgrading road infrastructure is a central focus of the nation’s growth strategy. He noted Turkmenistan’s expanding role in transport diplomacy, aiming to solidify its position as a vital regional transit center.

The highway extends over 600 kilometers, connecting Ashgabat with the eastern territories. Earlier phases, including the routes from Ashgabat to Tedjen and from Tedjen to Mary, have previously been finished.

This six-lane highway adheres to international quality and safety benchmarks, facilitating direct access among the Akhal, Mary, and Lebap regions. The new road is anticipated to greatly improve mobility and foster regional integration.

Importantly, the entire initiative was executed by local firms, with construction attributed to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

Officials highlighted that the highway will decrease travel durations for both passengers and freight, enhance logistics operations, and spur economic advancement in various regions. It’s poised to reinforce Turkmenistan’s role as a key transport corridor bridging nations and continents.

This initiative embodies the nation’s wider vision of renewing the ancient Silk Road in a contemporary manner, propelling sustainable transport growth and international connectivity.
