Bahrain Committee Plans Stronger Education, Science & Culture Ties

The Bahrain National Commission for Education, Science, and Culture held its first meeting under the leadership of Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education. The session brought together committee members and invited guests to discuss the commission’s goals, responsibilities, and future plans. The focus of the meeting was on how Bahrain can strengthen its links with leading international organisations in the fields of education, culture, and science.

Goals Of The Committee

The committee was formed to serve as a bridge between Bahrain and international bodies that deal with education, science, and cultural matters. These include UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), ALECSO (Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization), ICESCO (Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), and the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. The commission aims to ensure Bahrain plays an active role in these organisations while also benefiting from global expertise and cooperation.

Reviewing Roles And Responsibilities

During the meeting, members reviewed the history and formation of the committee. They also discussed the responsibilities given to Bahrain by regional and international organisations. This included identifying areas of common interest in education, science, and cultural development. By clearly defining roles, the committee hopes to improve coordination and ensure that Bahrain’s contributions are recognised at international conferences and councils.

Strengthening Education And Culture

One of the major discussions during the meeting was about enhancing cooperation between government bodies, private institutions, and international organisations. The Minister of Education stressed that education, science, and culture are key drivers for building strong societies. By connecting with international bodies, Bahrain can improve its education system, preserve cultural values, and support scientific development that benefits both the nation and the region.

UNESCO ICT Award And Its Significance

The Education Minister also highlighted one of the committee’s proudest achievements – the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education. This award, created in partnership with UNESCO, has gained worldwide recognition. It celebrates innovative projects that use modern technology to improve education. The Minister updated members about preparations for the 20th anniversary celebration of this award, which will take place in Bahrain in October. This event will not only mark two decades of achievements but also showcase Bahrain’s global role in supporting education through technology.

Building Regional And International Partnerships

The committee recognised that education and cultural development cannot happen in isolation. Strong partnerships with regional neighbours and international organisations are essential. Bahrain has always valued cooperation, and the commission sees itself as a platform to expand these ties. Whether through joint projects, conferences, or cultural exchanges, Bahrain is committed to playing an active role in the global education and cultural scene.

Future Plans For The Commission

Looking ahead, the committee outlined plans to increase participation in the general conferences and executive councils of UNESCO, ALECSO, and ICESCO. Active participation ensures that Bahrain’s voice is heard when key global policies are made. It also allows Bahrain to share its own experiences and learn from other countries. The commission also plans to create stronger links with local institutions, universities, and cultural centres to ensure that international cooperation brings direct benefits to the people of Bahrain.

Focus On Youth And Innovation

The meeting also touched on the importance of engaging young people in science and cultural projects. By involving youth, Bahrain can inspire a new generation to think creatively, innovate, and connect with global opportunities. The Minister pointed out that youth are central to Bahrain’s development vision, and international cooperation will open doors for them to gain new knowledge and skills.

Celebrating Cultural Heritage

While the committee is focused on global partnerships, it also stressed the importance of preserving Bahrain’s cultural identity. Education and science go hand in hand with culture, and the committee aims to ensure that Bahrain’s history, traditions, and values are protected and promoted on the international stage. Cooperation with global cultural organisations will help highlight Bahrain’s unique heritage and showcase it to the world.

The meeting concluded with a strong call for teamwork and collaboration among members. The Minister emphasised that only through joint efforts can the commission achieve its goals of strengthening education, science, and culture in Bahrain. The focus will remain on enhancing cooperation with both local institutions and international organisations. The committee members agreed to continue working together actively to achieve these ambitions.
