Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, participated in the Arab Troika meeting on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The Troika includes Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq and met with members of the United Nations Security Council to discuss cooperation.
Attendees Of The Meeting
The meeting was attended by Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister; Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister; and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States. The Security Council side was led by Cho Tae-yul, South Korea’s Foreign Minister and current Council president, along with ministers from the Council’s member states.
Bahrain’s Support For Arab Unity
In his statement, Minister Al Zayani reiterated Bahrain’s strong support for joint Arab efforts to strengthen the role of the League of Arab States as a unified Arab framework. He highlighted the importance of maintaining communication channels with the UN Security Council to promote international peace and security.
Focus On Palestinian Issue
The Minister emphasized that the meeting occurred during escalating challenges in the Arab region, including the unresolved Palestinian issue. He reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for establishing an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees, and the acceleration of humanitarian aid.
Regional Crisis Cooperation
Minister Al Zayani stressed Bahrain’s belief in stronger cooperation between the League of Arab States and the UN Security Council to address other regional crises. These include conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia. He highlighted the need for dialogue and diplomatic solutions that preserve state unity and sovereignty while fulfilling the aspirations of the peoples for security and development.

The meeting also included Jamal Fares Al Ruwaiei, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their presence ensured coordination on Bahrain’s positions and support for regional diplomacy.
