India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has confirmed that pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be rested for the remaining Asia Cup matches. This comes despite India preparing for a two-match home test series against the West Indies starting on October 2. Bumrah’s fitness and workload have been carefully managed this year due to back problems.
Workload Management
The 31-year-old fast bowler played only three out of five tests during India’s tied 2-2 series in England earlier this year. Assistant coach Ten Doeschate emphasized that Bumrah’s participation in Asia Cup matches is part of carefully planned workload management ahead of the upcoming tests.
Asia Cup Matches
India, the defending champions of the Twenty20 Asia Cup, will face Sri Lanka on Friday and are expected to play in the final on Sunday. Bumrah’s presence in the team is considered crucial, and the coaching staff plans to field the best available team for every game. Ten Doeschate noted that if circumstances allow resting him in the last game, it could be considered, but currently, he is part of the main playing eleven.
Performance In Asia Cup
Bumrah has taken three wickets in the tournament so far, with an economy rate of 8.36. He had a challenging match against Pakistan, conceding 45 runs without taking a wicket, though India secured victory. Ten Doeschate said that occasional high run concessions are part of the game, and Bumrah’s workload is balanced with the team’s strategy of combining seamers and spinners.
Preparing For Tests
The Asia Cup is seen as good preparation for the upcoming test matches against the West Indies. Ten Doeschate explained that the experience of bowling in T20 matches, including handling powerplay overs, contributes to overall readiness for longer formats. Bumrah’s participation in both tournaments ensures he maintains match fitness while being carefully monitored.
Bowling Strategy
Ten Doeschate also highlighted that Bumrah’s role is physically demanding. Bowling three overs in the T20 powerplay is strenuous, but it is considered appropriate for building stamina ahead of the test series. The coaching staff feels this approach provides the right amount of work while keeping the player fresh for important fixtures.
Importance To Team
Bumrah remains a key figure in India’s plans for both the Asia Cup and the upcoming home tests. His speed, accuracy, and experience are vital to India’s strategy in T20 matches and longer formats. The coaching team continues to monitor his condition closely to avoid overexertion while maximizing his impact on the field.
Jasprit Bumrah is expected to continue playing for India in the remaining Asia Cup matches and the upcoming West Indies test series. Careful workload management and strategic planning ensure he remains effective while maintaining fitness. His inclusion highlights India’s commitment to fielding their strongest team in major tournaments, balancing player health with competitive performance.
