India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has confirmed that pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be rested for the remaining Asia Cup matches. This comes despite India preparing for a two-match home test series against the West Indies starting on October 2. Bumrah’s fitness and workload have been carefully managed this year due to back problems.
Workload Management
The 31-year-old fast bowler played only three out of five tests during India’s tied 2-2 series in England earlier this year. Assistant coach Ten Doeschate emphasized that Bumrah’s participation in Asia Cup matches is part of carefully planned workload management ahead of the upcoming tests.

India, the defending champions of the Twenty20 Asia Cup, will face Sri Lanka on Friday and are expected to play in the final on Sunday. Bumrah’s presence in the team is considered crucial, and the coaching staff plans to field the best available team for every game. Ten Doeschate noted that if circumstances allow resting him in the last game, it could be considered, but currently, he is part of the main playing eleven.

Bumrah has taken three wickets in the tournament so far, with an economy rate of 8.36. He had a challenging match against Pakistan, conceding 45 runs without taking a wicket, though India secured victory. Ten Doeschate said that occasional high run concessions are part of the game, and Bumrah’s workload is balanced with the team’s strategy of combining seamers and spinners.

The Asia Cup is seen as good preparation for the upcoming test matches against the West Indies. Ten Doeschate explained that the experience of bowling in T20 matches, including handling powerplay overs, contributes to overall readiness for longer formats.
