Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) has finalised a lease agreement for two Boeing 737-8 aircraft with Tajikistan's Somon Air, marking a significant step in expanding operations. The delivery is slated for 2026, paving the way for a strategic alliance.
This arrangement comes at a time when carriers in emerging markets are ramping up demand for efficient narrowbody jets to expand their routes while cutting operational costs. The Boeing 737-8, known for its enhanced fuel efficiency and extended range compared to older models, is ideal for fleet upgrades.
Firoz Tarapore, the CEO of DAE, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Somon Air, emphasizing the desire to foster growth and establish a lasting relationship.
Somon Air's CEO Abdulkosim Valiev noted that the new aircraft will enable broader route expansion, enhanced efficiency, and a stronger market position. The airline focuses on modernizing its fleet to boost both regional and international operations.
DAE stands as one of the largest aircraft leasing firms globally, managing around 750 aircraft—including 237 Boeing models. The company aims to further grow its fleet as airlines increasingly opt for leasing over purchasing.
