DavidsTea Herbal Tea Recall Over Undeclared Almond Ingredient

Post by : Shweta

The Canadian tea company DAVIDsTEA has announced a recall of its herbal tea after discovering an undeclared allergen in the mix. Health authorities urge consumers to avoid this product, which may contain almond, not mentioned on the packaging. This recall was issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) amidst concerns that the undisclosed ingredient could trigger severe allergic reactions in certain individuals.

The tea in question is the “Organic Sneeze Ease Herbal Infusion,” primarily sold online throughout Canada. The CFIA highlights that the tea may contain almond, a common tree nut allergen potentially dangerous for those with allergies. The absence of clear labeling means consumers might unwittingly ingest the product, believing it to be safe.

The affected product is identified as a 50-gram package of loose-leaf tea, marked with UPC 101202100502 and code 000CHA831216. This situation has been categorized as a grave food recall by the CFIA, which has advised consumers to cease using the product immediately. Customers should not consume, sell, or serve the impacted tea but dispose of it or return it to the retailer.

Experts note that reactions to tree nut allergens can vary from mild symptoms to life-threatening conditions. Those allergic to almonds might suffer swelling, respiratory issues, skin reactions, or even severe anaphylaxis after consumption. Canadian regulations mandate that food labels clearly outline common allergens to enable safe consumer choices.

The CFIA is actively pursuing a food safety investigation regarding the recall. This inquiry may uncover additional products at risk in the market. There have been no reported illnesses connected to this recall thus far, but officials are diligently overseeing the situation.

Online discussions surrounding the recall have highlighted consumer worries about food labeling and allergen safety. Platforms like Reddit have seen users identifying almond as the unreported allergen, emphasizing the critical need for precise labeling for those with serious allergies.
