Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed a high-level delegation from Cisco, led by Dr. Guy Diedrich, Senior Vice President and Global Innovation Officer. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in digital transformation initiatives.
Focus on Artificial Intelligence
The discussion highlighted ways to leverage the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to support Dubai’s electricity and water sectors. Both parties explored strategies to enhance the digital infrastructure and advance smart services within DEWA.
Attendees and Key Participants
The meeting included Marwan Bin Haidar, Vice Chairman – Digital and Group CEO of Digital DEWA, Waleed Bin Salman, Vice Chairman – Energy at Digital DEWA, and Mohammed Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Data Hub Integrated Solutions (Moro). Their presence underscored DEWA’s commitment to collaboration in innovative digital solutions.
DEWA’s Digital Transformation Vision
Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, including AI, to support the Dubai Economic Agenda ‘D33’. The initiative aims to position Dubai among the world’s top 10 digital economies, promote sustainability, and advance DEWA’s goal to become the world’s first AI-native utility.
Existing Cooperation with Cisco
The meeting reviewed ongoing collaboration between DEWA and Cisco. Moro, DEWA’s cloud platform operator and a Cisco Managed Services Programme (MSP) partner, uses Cisco solutions, servers, and network systems to implement digital infrastructure projects. Both parties are also working on developing Observability Solutions hosted in Moro’s green data centres.
Review of Key IT Projects
DEWA and Cisco discussed several ongoing IT projects, including the implementation of Cisco NAC across DEWA buildings, the establishment of software-defined access (SDA) using the DNAC platform, data centre connectivity projects, and testing of Cisco Umbrella solutions for network agents. These initiatives aim to improve security, efficiency, and operational visibility.
Advancing Dubai’s Smart Energy Agenda
The collaboration supports Dubai’s broader digital and sustainability agenda. By integrating AI technologies and advanced IT solutions, DEWA seeks to enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to a sustainable and innovative energy and water sector.
Both DEWA and Cisco emphasized the importance of continuing partnership to implement advanced digital solutions. The meeting reflects shared commitment to innovation, AI adoption, and strengthening Dubai’s position as a global hub for smart utilities and digital transformation.
