Wheat Harvesting Grows in Dhofar Region of Oman

Post by : Shakul

The wheat harvest season has commenced in the Al Najd agricultural region of Dhofar Governorate, signaling a significant milestone for Oman’s agricultural efforts for the 2025–2026 cycle. This initiative underscores the nation's commitment to enhancing food security while boosting its agricultural capabilities.

With the oversight of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, a total of 51 farms are engaged in this harvest effort, covering an impressive 6,408 acres. This expansion signifies a consistent rise in the cultivation of wheat in the area.

Officials have noted that this venture aligns with Oman’s wider goals of increasing food production self-sufficiency and diminishing import dependency. The continuous actions taken reflect a strong dedication to sustainable agricultural practices.

Eng. Said bin Musallam Al Kathiri reported that a variety of wheat types are being farmed this season, such as Najd 1, Najd 2, Australian wheat, Qurayat 110, Qurayat 226, and Qurayat 308, all tailored to the region’s climatic conditions.

He mentioned that the harvest season is projected to last around two months, ensuring a streamlined process for collecting and managing crops from all involved farms.

To aid farmers, the Ministry is offering modern machinery and expert guidance to boost efficiency. In addition, the Oman Mills Company is prepared to handle an anticipated yield of over 8,000 tons across the nation this season.

Officials highlighted that the wheat cultivation initiative in the Najd area is crucial for advancing agricultural sustainability, which plays a vital role in Oman’s overarching aim of securing food autonomy and economic resilience.
