Reports indicate that The Walt Disney Company is gearing up for potential job cuts affecting around 1,000 employees in the near future, with many layoffs anticipated within the marketing sector, sources tell The Wall Street Journal.
This anticipated reduction will represent less than 1% of Disney's entire global employee base, which stood at about 231,000 at the close of fiscal year 2025.
It's been suggested that the groundwork for these layoffs was laid before Josh D’Amaro assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer in March, showing the long-term planning behind this restructuring.
Simultaneously, Asad Ayaz, the newly appointed Chief Marketing Officer, is spearheading initiatives to unify Disney’s marketing functions into a single framework. Known internally as “Project Imagine,” this strategy is aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies and reducing costs.
Since January, Ayaz has been overseeing a new company-wide marketing organization, marking a transition towards a more cohesive and efficient marketing strategy.
While Reuters has not verified the report independently, Disney has yet to provide any comments outside of standard business hours.
This decision underscores wider efforts across the media and entertainment sector, as organizations adjust to shifting market conditions and changing consumer demands.
