DP World has joined forces with Al Dahra Holding by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to enhance food security while improving agricultural logistics across the GCC and beyond.
This collaboration aligns with regional initiatives focused on fortifying food supply chains throughout the Gulf area. With approximately 85-90% of food imported into the UAE, this agreement underscores the pressing demand for dependable and efficient supply chain infrastructures to ensure sustainable food security.
The agreement stipulates that both organizations will collaborate to create comprehensive supply chain solutions dedicated to the movement, storage, and distribution of agricultural and food products. This venture will leverage DP World’s extensive logistics network along with Al Dahra’s agricultural sourcing and production expertise.
Additionally, the partnership will assess the development of specialized logistics and port facilities for the importation, storage, processing, and distribution of food within the Gulf Cooperation Council. Moreover, efforts will prioritize enhancing cold chain logistics and storage options for perishable items, including fresh produce and grains.
Both firms will also investigate potential joint investments in logistics infrastructures, operations within free zones, and food processing centers, particularly in Abu Dhabi and other Gulf markets.
The initiative includes fortifying global sourcing routes spanning Africa, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas to boost the efficiency of food supply chains.
As part of this collaboration, DP World and Al Dahra intend to explore technology-led logistics solutions, utilizing digital platforms, traceability tools, and innovations in smart logistics to bolster supply chain transparency and operational efficiency.
The partnership will also enhance collaboration on regulatory compliance, food safety standards, and customs procedures to streamline international trade.
Yuvraj Narayan, Group CEO of DP World, emphasized that this partnership signifies the company’s dedication to nurturing robust and sustainable supply chains that also enhance food security and drive economic progress.
Meanwhile, Arnoud van den Berg, Group CEO of Al Dahra, articulated that this collaboration will enable the company to transport and distribute vital food products with greater efficiency across the GCC and globally.
