MWL Chief Opens Meeting to Unite Pakistani Scholars

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, inaugurated the Second Consultative Meeting with Pakistani religious scholars in Islamabad. The event was titled “Coordination of Positions and Unity of Stance.” It brought together senior scholars from different schools of thought across Pakistan to promote dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among the Muslim community.

Promoting Unity Among Scholars

In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Issa emphasized that unity among Muslim scholars is vital to address the challenges facing the Muslim world. He explained that this meeting serves as a platform for scholars to coordinate their views and adopt a common position on key religious, social, and humanitarian issues. He encouraged participants to focus on shared values that unite Muslims rather than differences that divide them.

Strengthening Solidarity in the Muslim World

Dr. Al-Issa reminded attendees that the strength of the Muslim Ummah lies in its solidarity and shared commitment to justice, peace, and compassion. He stressed that a unified scholarly voice can help the global Muslim community respond effectively to misunderstandings about Islam and to promote the true image of tolerance and mercy within the faith.

Emphasis on Scholarly Consensus

The MWL chief noted that one of the main goals of the consultative meeting is to achieve consensus among scholars on major issues. He said that while differences in jurisprudential interpretation exist, they should be seen as sources of richness and diversity within Islamic thought, not causes of division. Such scholarly discussions, he added, are key to deepening understanding and strengthening the spirit of cooperation among Muslim nations.

Value of Jurisprudential Diversity

Dr. Al-Issa further highlighted the importance of recognizing and respecting diverse scholarly opinions in Islamic jurisprudence. He explained that throughout Islamic history, scholars from various schools of thought have contributed valuable insights that collectively strengthen the intellectual and moral foundation of Islam. This diversity, he said, enriches Islamic knowledge and promotes tolerance within the global Muslim community.

Dialogue as a Path to Understanding

The meeting encouraged open dialogue and respectful debate among scholars. According to Dr. Al-Issa, such discussions create an atmosphere of intellectual honesty and trust. They also provide opportunities for scholars to collaborate on solutions to challenges such as extremism, social injustice, and global misconceptions about Islam. By engaging in constructive dialogue, scholars can set a positive example for their communities.

MWL’s Global Role in Promoting Peace

The Muslim World League has played a major role in fostering dialogue and unity across different Muslim societies. Under Dr. Al-Issa’s leadership, the MWL has organized international conferences and peace forums to bridge gaps between communities. The organization continues to support initiatives that promote moderation, peaceful coexistence, and respect for diversity.

Cooperation with Pakistani Scholars

Dr. Al-Issa praised the active role of Pakistani scholars in supporting MWL’s global initiatives. He said Pakistan’s religious community has always played a vital role in spreading knowledge, peace, and understanding. The partnership between MWL and Pakistani scholars is an example of how international cooperation can help strengthen Islamic values and bring stability to societies.

Importance of Shared Responsibility

During the session, participants agreed on the importance of shared responsibility in addressing challenges such as intolerance, extremism, and misinformation about Islam. They also discussed ways to improve educational programs and strengthen community engagement to promote unity among Muslims worldwide.

The Second Consultative Meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to continue dialogue and collaboration. The scholars expressed appreciation to Dr. Al-Issa and the MWL for providing a platform that encourages unity and understanding. The gathering marked another important step in building bridges among Muslim communities and promoting peace through shared wisdom and mutual respect.
