Dubai has achieved a significant milestone with the graduation of its very first class from the Dubai Health Leadership Academy's premier Systems Leadership Program, celebrated at the Museum of the Future.
The event was graced by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Health Board, alongside His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, reinforcing the leadership's dedication to a health system bolstered by capable leaders.
In collaboration with Saïd Business School from the University of Oxford, 40 senior professionals completed a rigorous 14-month program aimed at enhancing strategic insights, fostering inter-system collaboration, and fostering healthcare innovation.
Expressing his congratulations, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum emphasized that this initiative is part of Dubai's vision to cultivate leaders who can adeptly navigate challenges into growth opportunities.
“Under the guidance of our leadership, Dubai is transforming healthcare by empowering leaders capable of managing rapid changes to improve both the sector and community,” he stated. “I commend our graduates whose leadership is vital for the future of health in Dubai, aiming to enhance societal wellbeing and care quality.”
His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum remarked that this graduation signifies a pivotal moment in Dubai Health’s mission to develop a sustainable, knowledge-based healthcare ecosystem.
“We take pride in acknowledging the graduation of our inaugural Systems Leadership Program cohort in partnership with Oxford’s Saïd Business School. Our focus on nurturing forward-thinking leaders is crucial for establishing a healthcare framework grounded in innovation and best practices globally,” he commented.
Attending the ceremony were various senior officials, including Her Excellency Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, a member of the Dubai Health Board, and Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Director General of Dubai Health Authority, among others.
Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali described the program as instrumental in driving transformation within Dubai's health system.
“The Systems Leadership Program grooms leaders who can adeptly manage complexity and uphold the core principles of Dubai’s healthcare sector. By solidifying a resilient and people-centered foundation, we are paving the way for a healthier and more sustainable tomorrow,” he explained.
Dr. Amer Sharif noted that the program reflects the intricate and compassionate nature of healthcare leadership.
“The Dubai Health Leadership Academy was initiated to prepare leaders for a dynamic system like that of Dubai. Our graduates are well-equipped to continue this mission,” he remarked, extending gratitude to Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed and Sheikh Mansoor for their unwavering support.
He also thanked the collaboration partners—Emirates, Dubai Airports, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre—for enriching the program’s practical insights.
Dr. Eleanor Murray, the Academic Director and Senior Fellow at Oxford Saïd Business School, highlighted the importance of the first cohort’s journey.
“This program united world-class faculty and experts, encouraging substantial dialogue around leadership in complex healthcare systems. The jointly awarded certificate signifies not only academic success but a transformative learning experience,” she commented.
Dr. Mark O’Brien, Director of the Systems Leadership Program, emphasized that this graduation marks a crucial milestone in the collaboration between Dubai Health and Oxford.
“The remarkable progress showcased by this cohort will significantly bolster Dubai’s commitment to excellence and innovation in healthcare long into the future,” he stated.
Initiated in September 2024, the Dubai Health Leadership Academy and its foundational Systems Leadership Program were constructed with insights from global experts, aligning with Dubai Health’s strategic objectives. Over four modules spanning 14 months, participants applied their learning within the healthcare sector while benefiting from personalized coaching from Oxford Saïd Business School.
The graduation of this inaugural cohort paves the way for a fresh wave of leaders ready to shape the future of healthcare in Dubai.
