Dubai Media City, recognized as the leading center for media and content creation in the Middle East, commemorates its 25th anniversary, marking a period of significant innovation and expansion in the creative industries.
As a vital segment of TECOM Group's 10 business districts, Dubai Media City has played a crucial role in establishing Dubai as an international media hub, attracting talent, investment, and inventive ideas. Since its inception, the district has been pivotal in forming a multi-dimensional media capital in the Arab world, providing cutting-edge infrastructure and a supportive environment to fuel industry advancement.
The foundation set by Dubai Media City enabled the creation of TECOM Group's Media Cluster, which comprises Dubai Production City and Dubai Studio City. Collectively, they support over 40,000 creative professionals and accommodate more than 60% of Fortune 500 media companies. This includes a plethora of TV and radio networks, social media platforms, and content creators who produce in multiple languages such as Arabic, English, German, Hindi, Chinese, and Tagalog.
Majed Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President of Dubai Media City, Dubai Production City, and Dubai Studio City, stated, "With the foresight of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Media City has consistently drawn global media leaders for over 25 years, reinforcing the nation’s economy focused on knowledge and innovation."
Fueling Creativity
Dubai Media City has attracted prominent international media companies such as CNN, Discovery Networks, WPP, and Publicis Groupe, along with regional leaders like ITP Media Group and OSN Group. This hub has been instrumental in earning Dubai recognition as the Capital of Arab Media in both 2020 and 2021.
In 2024, Dubai topped the global ranks for Greenfield FDI in cultural and creative sectors for the third year running, with 971 projects securing AED 18.86 billion in investments and generating 23,517 new job opportunities.
Empowering Talent
The district fosters talent through initiatives such as the Emirati Media Talent Pledge and is home to the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism’s InstaBlock Lab, dedicated to safeguarding intellectual property. It also engages industry professionals through events like Creative Brunch and collaborates with Dubai Lynx, the premier creative platform in MENA.
Innovating for the Future
The Dubai Media City supports budding enterprises with in5 Media, a part of the renowned incubator in5. Since its inception in 2013, in5 has provided assistance to over 1,100 start-ups, facilitating AED 9 billion in funding. The incubator offers creative workspaces, training, mentorship, and networking options.
Additionally, D/Quarters, a collaborative workspace in Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City, supports freelancers and companies with flexible, tech-equipped environments.
Continuing its journey, Dubai Media City remains a key player in TECOM Group’s 10 specialized business districts, spearheading Dubai’s creative economy and reinforcing its status as a global media center.
