The Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) has successfully wrapped up its 12th Annual Autism Forum, underlining its dedication to inclusive education and support for those impacted by autism spectrum disorder throughout the UAE.
Spanning two days and themed “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” the forum convened educators, specialists, policymakers, families, and partners to deliberate on the advancements in inclusive education and enhance collaboration in the education sector. This event formed a key part of Autism Awareness Month and aligned itself with the UAE’s Year of Family goals.
Dedicated to fostering empathy and practical solutions, the forum aimed to uplift the quality of life for those with autism, ensuring their active and meaningful inclusion in society. ECAE organizes this annual forum as a venue for sharing insights, best practices, and encouraging constructive dialogue on developing inclusive educational settings for all learners.
Dr. May Laith Al Taee, Vice Chancellor of ECAE, emphasized that the essence of inclusive education lies in collective responsibility—beginning with families and extending to educational institutions and the broader community. She advocated for creating accessible learning spaces where everyone has equal chances to thrive in their educational journeys.
On the forum's first day, various subjects surrounding inclusive education were discussed, such as community partnerships and effective teaching strategies tailored for students with autism. Experts presented research-driven methodologies aimed at enhancing inclusive education frameworks.
An “Inspirational Stories” segment was also part of the agenda, introducing attendees to a film and a book designed to foster empathy and understanding towards individuals with autism.
The second day featured discussions centered around meaningful inclusion strategies for children with autism. Topics included the collaboration between families, educators, and specialists, alongside the contribution of research-informed education in enhancing inclusive methodologies.
The forum was designed in partnership with leading entities like the Ministry of Education, Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, Special Olympics UAE, and the University of Birmingham Dubai, united in advancing inclusive educational practices across the nation.
In honor of Autism Awareness Month, ECAE will continue to host various initiatives like panel discussions and awareness sessions under the titles “I Learn” and “I Care.” These activities spotlight the pivotal role that families play in nurturing inclusive environments and fostering enhanced social integration in communities.
