7 Key Indicators You're Growing Stronger, According to a Fitness Coach

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Many people associate muscle building with dramatic changes, but the journey is often more gradual. Fitness expert Eric Roberts recently revealed seven less obvious signs that your body is gaining strength, even if the transformation isn't immediately visible in the mirror.

1. Improved Grip Strength
A noticeable early sign of muscle growth can be found in your grip. If you're able to hold heavier weights for longer periods, it's a strong indication that your forearm muscles are developing.

2. Enhanced Posture
Watch for improvements in posture, particularly in the shoulders, back, and core. Roberts notes that standing taller and maintaining a straight body position are positive signs of muscle gain.

3. Reduction in Joint Pain
Consistent strength training can safeguard your joints and alleviate discomfort. If you're experiencing less pain in your back, knees, and shoulders, your muscles may be providing better support to those areas.

4. Change in Clothing Fit
As muscles develop, you may notice your clothes fitting differently. If your shirts feel snug on the shoulders and arms while remaining loose around the waist, it could indicate muscle growth without added fat.

5. Increased Appetite
Muscle tissue requires more calories to maintain, often leading to increased hunger. If you find yourself hungrier without changing your diet, your metabolism might be ramping up to support muscle growth.

6. Better Weight Control
Building muscle extends beyond just lifting heavier weights. Improved technique, controlled motions, and better form during workouts indicate that your muscles are strengthening.

7. Reduced Post-Workout Soreness
Experiencing less muscle soreness after working out is a crucial indicator of progress. As your muscles adapt and recover quicker, you’re on the path to greater strength.

Building muscle is an incremental process. While seeing changes in the mirror is gratifying, understanding these subtle signs can enhance your awareness of progress. Focus on increased strength, improved posture, and recovery as valuable measures of your fitness journey.

Roberts emphasizes that muscle gain is not just about looks; it's fundamentally about strength, function, and overall wellness. Even if major changes require time, these subtle signs assure you that your workouts are yielding results.
