Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a prominent gastroenterologist educated at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford, has unveiled five food pairings that can elevate health when consumed together. With over 25 years of experience, he emphasized that certain foods become more beneficial when combined. His guidance on social media highlighted that by pairing specific healthy options, one can enhance digestion, heart health, immunity, and energy levels. Many people might already consume these items, but the right combinations can enhance their benefits significantly.
One effective pairing is chia seeds mixed with yoghurt. Chia seeds are known for aiding digestion and promoting regularity, while yoghurt is esteemed for its gut health benefits. According to Dr. Sethi, the soluble fiber in chia and protein in yoghurt synergistically improve digestion and help maintain fullness, thereby curbing unnecessary cravings throughout the day.
Another duo he recommends is oats with walnuts. Oats are a go-to healthy breakfast for many, and walnuts provide essential fatty acids and omega-3s. Consuming them together bolsters heart health and aids in maintaining optimal cholesterol levels. Dr. Sethi pointed out that the fiber from oats and omega-3s from walnuts work in tandem to benefit both cardiovascular and brain health.
The importance of combining rice with beans was also stressed by the doctor. Rice, a staple in many Indian households, is often viewed as a simple carbohydrate. Yet, Dr. Sethi clarified that adding beans transforms this meal into a complete protein source, encompassing all essential amino acids, which are crucial for muscle building, repair, and immune support.
Additionally, he highlighted avocado paired with leafy greens. Leafy greens are rich in vitamins, but certain fat-soluble vitamins require healthy fats for proper absorption. Dr. Sethi explained that avocados supply these fats, enhancing the body’s ability to absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K more effectively, thus boosting the nutritional profile of salads and other cooked greens.
Lastly, he suggests pairing dark chocolate with almonds. Given that dark chocolate is a great source of magnesium and almonds offer healthy fats, this combination offers mood enhancement, energy maintenance, and stable blood sugar levels, making it a delightful option for a nutritious snack.
Dr. Sethi’s insights illustrate how simple modifications in one’s diet can lead to substantial health improvements. By opting for these strategic combinations, individuals can derive increased nutrition from familiar foods without the need for intricate preparations. These straightforward habits can gradually enhance heart health, digestion, immune resilience, and mental wellness.
