Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, expressed support for the plan announced by US President Donald Trump to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that any international effort aimed at resolving the crisis and halting the humanitarian catastrophe deserves recognition, engagement, and active contribution from all stakeholders.
Priorities for a Ceasefire
Albudaiwi stressed that the primary focus of any initiative should be a ceasefire, the swift and direct lifting of restrictions on aid delivery, and the protection of civilians. Preventing displacement and ensuring that the population in Gaza is safeguarded are crucial elements that must be central to responsible international action.
Importance of Implementation
The Secretary General highlighted that the success of any proposed plan depends on the seriousness of its implementation. Protecting civilians, maintaining stability, and providing the necessary conditions for long-term security are essential for the initiative to achieve meaningful results.
Positive Outlook on Proposed Steps
The GCC views the proposed steps positively. Albudaiwi stated that if implemented properly, these actions could help pave a genuine and just path that safeguards the rights of the Palestinian people. Among these rights, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital remains a top priority.
Commitment to Cooperation
Albudaiwi reiterated the Cooperation Council’s readiness to collaborate with regional and international partners. The GCC aims to support efforts that lead to resolving the Gaza crisis while preserving the rights of the Palestinian people. This includes working toward a sustainable, long-term solution that ensures security, stability, and peace in the region.
Focus on the Two-State Solution
The Secretary General emphasized that any sustainable resolution must be based on the two-state solution. This approach guarantees that both Palestinians and Israelis can coexist in peace, with secure borders and respect for international agreements and human rights.
Humanitarian Considerations
Highlighting the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza, Albudaiwi stressed the importance of immediate actions to provide aid, restore essential services, and alleviate suffering. International coordination is essential to ensure that assistance reaches those in need without delay.
Long-Term Stability and Security
The GCC Secretary General pointed out that a long-term solution requires addressing the root causes of the conflict. Political engagement, security guarantees, and international support are vital to prevent future escalations and to build sustainable peace across the region.
GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi’s statement underlines the Cooperation Council’s strong support for international efforts to end the Gaza crisis. By promoting a ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian aid, and backing the two-state solution, the GCC aims to contribute toward a secure, stable, and peaceful Middle East.
