GCC Forum Discusses AI for Efficient Civil Service Transformation

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CGB) successfully concluded the First Gulf Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Civil Service on Thursday. The event focused on discussing innovative solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of civil service across Gulf countries. This forum was held in partnership with the Sultanate of Oman as part of the ongoing initiatives by the Technical Committee for Civil Service and Human Resources Affairs within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

CGB’s Director General, Saif bin Ali Al Kaabi, attended the forum along with senior representatives from ministries and civil service authorities across the GCC. The forum also brought together specialists and employees working in human resources and information systems departments, providing a platform for sharing knowledge and learning from successful digital transformation practices in the region.

The main goal of the forum was to highlight how AI technologies can help governments work more efficiently. Discussions emphasized enhancing administrative system flexibility, improving government services, and supporting smart institutional transformation in civil service sectors. The forum showcased practical examples of AI applications in areas like workflow management, employee performance evaluation, recruitment, and service delivery to citizens.

During the event, various Gulf entities presented their achievements and experiences in applying digital solutions to civil service. These presentations illustrated how innovative technologies can reduce manual work, streamline operations, and create a more responsive government system. A panel discussion further explored the potential of AI to shape the future of civil service, including how smart solutions can address challenges in human resource management and institutional operations.

The forum concluded with a set of recommendations for GCC countries. One key recommendation was the need to strengthen digital integration across the region, allowing governments to share successful models and best practices in AI implementation. Another important point was encouraging the establishment of a Gulf network for exchanging knowledge and expertise in AI, which would help public institutions adopt smart systems more effectively.

In addition, the forum emphasized building partnerships among institutions in the GCC to promote innovation in government services and support the transformation towards smart and flexible administrative systems. Participants agreed that collaboration, experience sharing, and adopting advanced technologies would help Gulf countries achieve a more sustainable and modern civil service structure.

The First Gulf Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Civil Service marked an important step toward digital transformation in government sectors across the GCC. By highlighting practical applications, promoting knowledge exchange, and providing recommendations for future action, the forum set the stage for a smarter and more efficient civil service in the region.

This event reflects the GCC’s ongoing commitment to leveraging modern technologies to improve governance, enhance service delivery, and strengthen institutional efficiency. The successful conclusion of the forum shows that AI can play a central role in shaping the future of public administration while ensuring that governments remain agile, responsive, and citizen-focused.
