A prominent diabetologist, Dr. Brijmohan Arora, advocates a simple yet effective health strategy: taking a 15-minute walk after meals. This minor adjustment can lead to a significant decrease in blood sugar levels and enhance overall health, making it especially valuable for individuals managing diabetes or elevated sugar levels.
With over 24 years in the medical field, Dr. Arora recently shared insights on Instagram, demonstrating the impact of a brief walk. In his video, he monitored his glucose levels, showcasing a drop from 107 mg/dL to 96 mg/dL within just 15 minutes of walking outdoors during a casual outing. Utilizing a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), he highlighted how this technology can reveal effective strategies in real-time.
Dr. Arora emphasized that significant improvements in health do not stem from extravagant medications or rigorous diets, but rather from basic physical activity. Walking activates muscles that act like sponges, absorbing sugar from the bloodstream for energy, effortlessly lowering sugar levels.
The doctor reiterated that walking is a potent, safe method to bolster metabolic health. It benefits those with diabetes, prediabetes, and individuals facing insulin resistance. He characterized walking as an economical, secure, and impactful exercise, often overlooked despite its potential to enhance daily life.
He advised observing glucose trends. For those constantly observing elevated CGM readings, rising HbA1c levels, or increased abdominal fat, he recommends starting with a simple step: daily walks. This minor alteration can yield significant long-term advantages.
Despite the inclination to relax post-meal due to fatigue, Dr. Arora encourages movement instead. A short walk not only regulates sugar levels but also boosts metabolism, aids digestion, and invigorates the body. Integrating this easy habit is feasible for everyone, regardless of their busy lifestyles.
This guidance is especially relevant in today's world, where many people spend extended periods sitting at desks. A daily 15-minute walk requires no special equipment or elaborate planning and can be performed at home, in a park, or during a market visit, as demonstrated by Dr. Arora.
His message serves as a reminder that simple actions can bring about substantial health transformations. Instead of seeking complex solutions, individuals can opt for straightforward habits that are both manageable and effective.
