China’s big tech company Huawei Technologies has shown a new and powerful AI (Artificial Intelligence) system. It is called the CloudMatrix 384. Huawei showed this new machine at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC). This event took place in Shanghai and lasted three days. Many people and companies came to see the latest AI technology.

People Gathered to See It

Huawei’s booth at the WAIC event was very busy. A lot of people wanted to learn more about the CloudMatrix 384. This system has been talked about since Huawei first shared information about it in April 2025. But this was the first time it was shown to the public.

Huawei vs Nvidia

Experts believe that Huawei's new system is made to compete directly with Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72, which is the most powerful AI system made by Nvidia, a major U.S. company. Many say that Huawei’s new CloudMatrix 384 could be just as good—or maybe even better—than Nvidia’s system.

What the Expert Said

Dylan Patel, a well-known chip industry expert and founder of a company called SemiAnalysis, said in April that Huawei now has the ability to beat Nvidia in some parts of AI computing. He believes that CloudMatrix 384 is a very strong system and could change the AI market.

Huawei Gave No Comments

Even though the CloudMatrix 384 was on display, Huawei staff at the event did not give much information. When people asked about the new system, they refused to explain anything. Also, Huawei’s official spokesperson did not respond to media questions. So most details come from expert reports and earlier announcements.

Huawei is Growing Fast in AI

Even though Huawei faces trade restrictions from the United States, it is still becoming very important in the AI chip market in China. It is now seen as China’s best hope for making local chips and systems for AI work. Even Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, said in May that Huawei is moving very quickly and used CloudMatrix as an example of their progress.

What’s Inside the CloudMatrix 384

The new Huawei system uses 384 of its own AI chips, which are called 910C chips. This is much more than what Nvidia uses in its GB200 NVL72, which has only 72 B200 chips. Even though Huawei’s chips may not be as strong as each of Nvidia’s chips, the large number of chips and the way they work together makes Huawei’s system very powerful.

System Design is Very Important

According to the experts at SemiAnalysis, Huawei’s success comes not just from its chips, but from the way the whole system is built. Huawei has created a very good design that connects the 384 chips in a way that makes them work very well together. This system-level thinking helps Huawei compete with Nvidia.

What is Supernode Architecture?

Huawei said that the CloudMatrix 384 uses something called “supernode architecture.” This means that all the chips inside the system can talk to each other very fast, which is very important for big AI tasks. This fast connection helps the system perform better when running complex AI programs.

Already Working in Huawei Cloud

Huawei is already using the CloudMatrix 384 in real life. In June 2025, Huawei Cloud CEO Zhang Pingan said that the system was already working on Huawei’s cloud platform. This means that people and companies who use Huawei’s cloud services can now use this powerful AI system for their own projects.

Why This Matters for China

China wants to become stronger in technology, especially in AI. But because of U.S. restrictions, it is harder for Chinese companies to get the best chips and software from America. Huawei’s new system gives China a local option to grow its AI power without relying on foreign companies. This is very important for technology independence.

A Big Step for Huawei

The release of CloudMatrix 384 is a big achievement for Huawei. It shows that the company can make world-class technology, even while facing serious challenges from outside the country. The system proves that Huawei is ready to lead in the AI race—at least inside China.

How Will This Affect Nvidia?

Nvidia has been a global leader in AI chips for many years. But if Huawei’s new system becomes popular, especially in China, Nvidia might lose some of its market share. Because of trade restrictions, Nvidia cannot sell its most powerful chips to Chinese companies. This gives Huawei a chance to grow fast without competition from Nvidia in China.

Will This Change the AI Market?

It’s possible. If Huawei continues to improve its AI chips and systems, more companies in China—and maybe other countries—might start using Huawei’s products instead of U.S.-made chips. This could change the balance of power in the global AI industry.

Challenges Still Remain

Even though Huawei has made big progress, there are still challenges. The company must continue improving its chip designs and software tools. Also, it must make sure that the CloudMatrix 384 works well for all kinds of AI tasks. Only time will tell how it performs in the real world.

Huawei’s CloudMatrix 384 is a powerful new AI system that could compete with, or even beat, Nvidia’s best technology. The system uses a large number of Huawei-made chips and smart design to deliver high performance. Experts are watching closely, and the system is already working in Huawei's cloud. This marks a big moment for China’s AI ambitions and shows that Huawei is ready to lead in the field of artificial intelligence.
