Recognizing Silent Heart Attack Signs: Expert Guidance

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Silent heart attacks can pose a significant health threat due to their lack of distinct warning signs. Often, individuals remain unaware of their heart's distress until it’s too late. Dr. Bimal Chhajer, a seasoned cardiologist specializing in non-invasive methods, has shared valuable insights on identifying early signs that could precede a serious heart event.

In a recent blog post titled “Recognising Pre-Heart Attack Symptoms: What Your Body Is Telling You,” published on Saaol.com, Dr. Chhajer highlighted that silent heart attacks may present minimal or even no symptoms. This can lead to critical delays in seeking medical attention, resulting in severe heart damage and higher risks of future complications.

Dr. Chhajer notes that heart disease remains among the leading causes of death globally. However, he insists that many heart attacks are avoidable if individuals attune themselves to their bodies and act swiftly. The heart often issues alerts prior to a major incident, and recognizing these indicators can be life-saving.

He clarified that a “pre-heart attack,” or unstable angina, occurs when there is an insufficient supply of oxygen-rich blood to the heart. This can happen due to narrowed or partially obstructed coronary arteries caused by plaque buildup. If overlooked, this condition may escalate into a full-blown heart attack.

Dr. Chhajer identified a range of symptoms that should never be dismissed, including chest pain or pressure, radiating pain in the arms, neck, jaw, or back, shortness of breath, and unexpected fatigue. Individuals may also experience dizziness, profuse sweating, or nausea. These signs can appear transiently but may indicate an underlying threat, with potential for recurrence leading to a major heart event.

The cardiologist emphasized the particular dangers of silent heart attacks, as mild symptoms can easily be mistaken for normal fatigue, stress, or indigestion. Ignoring these signs allows the condition to deteriorate. By the time medical attention is sought, significant damage may have occurred.

Dr. Chhajer urged people to heed even minor warning signs: “Never disregard chest pain, fatigue, or any discomfort. Your heart often communicates before a major incident,” he stated. “Timely recognition of these early symptoms can be life-saving.”

Moreover, maintaining a healthy lifestyle plays a crucial role in minimizing the risk of heart attacks. This includes consuming a balanced diet, steering clear of fast food and greasy meals, engaging in regular physical activity, managing stress effectively, and refraining from smoking. Frequent health assessments are particularly vital for individuals with high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease.

Experts agree that prompt intervention can significantly alter outcomes. Anyone experiencing chest pain lasting more than a few minutes or experiencing pressure in the chest should seek immediate medical attention. Quick action can avert long-term heart damage and potentially save lives.

Dr. Chhajer’s insights serve as a potent reminder that heart issues often advance insidiously over time. By noticing subtle changes in your body and not taking discomfort lightly, you can identify issues early and safeguard your heart health.
