India Critiques Pakistan at UN for Terrorism and Clarifies Operation Sindoor

Post by : Meena Hassan

India delivered a robust critique of Pakistan during a session at the United Nations Security Council, dismissing Islamabad's "false" assertions regarding Operation Sindoor while condemning its reliance on terrorism as a state strategy. India’s Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, accused Pakistan’s envoy of distorting the facts surrounding events that transpired last May.

Harish highlighted the brutal killing of 26 civilians in Pahalagam by Pakistan-backed terrorists in April 2025. He reminded Council members of their call to hold accountable those responsible—including perpetrators, organizers, and financiers of the horrific attack. India's approach, he asserted, was measured and focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure while avoiding conflict escalation.

He revealed that on May 9, Pakistan continued to issue threats, but a day later, the Pakistani military reached out to their Indian counterparts for peace talks. Harish challenged Pakistan's narrative of success by referencing the evident damage sustained by several Pakistani air bases during India's operations, noting destroyed runways and damaged hangars.

Addressing terrorism directly, Harish firmly rejected Pakistan's attempt to normalize such actions in the region, emphasizing, “Terrorism can never be tolerated as the new standard.” He criticized Pakistan, a current member of the UN Security Council, for pursuing a biased agenda aimed at undermining India and its populace.

Harish reaffirmed India’s steadfast view on Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that it remains a vital and non-negotiable part of India, with no room for Pakistani interference in its domestic affairs.

On the Indus Waters Treaty, he explained India’s decision to suspend the agreement, underscoring that, despite signing it in good faith 65 years ago, Pakistan’s history of violating its spirit through warfare and terror sponsorship warranted this pause. India’s resumption of the treaty hinges on Pakistan permanently ceasing its cross-border terrorism.

He concluded by urging Pakistan to maintain the rule of law, noting its internal issues, such as the contentious 27th Amendment, which grants lifetime immunity to its defense head.

India’s assertive stance at the UN highlights its dedication to fighting terrorism and ensuring national security while firmly rebutting Pakistan’s misinformation and interference in its sovereign matters.
