India and Israel have formalised a new Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation, marking a fresh phase in their security partnership. The deal was signed in Tel Aviv during the 17th India-Israel Joint Working Group meeting on Defence Cooperation, co-chaired by India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Major General (Res.) Amir Baram, Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Defence.
The MoU seeks to set "a unified vision and policy direction" to deepen defence links and outlines a framework for exchange of advanced technologies. It emphasises co-development and co-production across priority areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, defence innovation and research and development.
Both governments reiterated their intent to work together to improve operational capabilities and tackle shared security threats, including terrorism. During the JWG session officials reviewed current projects and highlighted the advantages of continuing joint initiatives and defence innovation partnerships.
The defence relationship between India and Israel is built on long-standing cooperation in security and technology. Israel is regarded as a key partner in bolstering India’s military capacity and supporting its defence modernisation agenda.
The MoU was announced as Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar visited New Delhi and met External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Saar referred to India as a "global superpower" and noted the expanding strategic and technological ties between the two countries.
Observers say the agreement signals a shift from conventional defence trade toward collaborative innovation and technology-led projects. Its timing underscores a shared intent by both democracies to develop future-ready defence solutions amid evolving global security challenges.
