Iran Begins Rebuilding Karaj B-1 Bridge After US Airstrike Damage

Iran Begins Rebuilding Karaj B-1 Bridge After US Airstrike Damage

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Iran has started reconstruction work on the B-1 Bridge in Karaj, located west of Tehran, nearly three months after the structure was damaged in a US airstrike.

Iranian media released footage on Monday showing preliminary restoration activities at the bridge site. The bridge became a major topic of discussion following the April 2 strike carried out by the United States.

At the time, US President Donald Trump described the bridge as Iran’s “George Washington Bridge” and claimed that “the biggest bridge in Iran” had been brought down and would “never” be used again.

Speaking to Axios last week, Trump said he ordered the strike because Iranian representatives allegedly arrived late for a meeting.

According to US officials, the April 2 attack targeted a transportation route that was reportedly being used to move missile and drone components. However, Iranian authorities rejected that claim and said the bridge was civilian infrastructure serving the public.

Iranian officials have announced that rebuilding the B-1 Bridge will cost more than $23 million. The reconstruction project is expected to take approximately one year to complete.

The restoration effort marks a significant infrastructure project for Iran as authorities work to restore connectivity in the region following the damage caused by the airstrike.
