Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation at the World Governments Summit to support youth leadership development and non-formal learning in Dubai.
The partnership focuses on preparing young people for real-life challenges by developing leadership, confidence, resilience, wellbeing, and a strong sense of purpose, alongside academic learning.
Her Excellency Aisha Miran, Director General of KHDA, said the initiative aligns with Dubai’s Education 33 Strategy, which aims to create future-ready learners. She stated that education in Dubai is not only about exams, but also about building strong character, leadership skills, and life readiness. The partnership will help expand internationally recognised non-formal learning opportunities for young people across the emirate.
Martin Houghton-Brown, Secretary General of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, said the organisation is pleased to work with KHDA to ensure young people from all backgrounds gain essential skills for life and work in the 21st century. He added that the foundation looks forward to learning from Dubai’s youth, parents, and educators.
The agreement combines KHDA’s learner-focused Education 33 Strategy with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’s more than 70 years of global experience in youth development.
Under this partnership, both organisations will explore ways to strengthen youth leadership, life skills, and character development while aligning with Dubai’s long-term education goals. The initiative will also promote internationally recognised non-formal learning pathways within Dubai’s education system.
KHDA and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award will actively engage with students, parents, and teachers to ensure the partnership meets the needs and aspirations of Dubai’s young people, helping them build confidence and leadership skills for the future.
