Tribute to Adibah Amin at Kuala Lumpur Event

A special tribute event honoring the legacy of esteemed journalist Adibah Amin took place in Kuala Lumpur, coinciding with the launch of her book, As I Was Passing (Legacy Edition). Friends from the media and literary community gathered to celebrate her significant contributions to journalism and literature.

The tribute was officiated by Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff and organized by Friends of Adibah Amin. Attendees shared reflections on her extraordinary career and lasting impact across journalism, education, and the arts.

In a heartfelt address, Adibah’s sister, Khalilah Fadzilah Amin, disclosed her sister’s current health struggles, stating that the celebrated journalist has been bedridden for two years. She thanked supporters for their love and explained her sister’s absence.

The Legacy Edition of her book includes a compilation of her most significant columns, unique photographs, and her signature, aiming to preserve her influential work for future readers.

Additionally, the event successfully garnered around RM100,000 to aid Adibah Amin’s medical expenses, demonstrating the profound respect and admiration she inspires.

Speakers at the event, such as Wong Chun Wai, lauded her as a legendary journalist, while A. Kadir Jasin stressed the importance of keeping her literary contributions alive for upcoming generations.

At the age of 90, Adibah Amin was honored as the first woman to receive the National Journalist Laureate title in 2023, leaving a remarkable legacy through her editorial roles at leading publications, continuing to inspire many writers and journalists.
