Meraas, an entity under Dubai Holding Real Estate, has announced a significant development plan for the Dubai Design District (d3), aimed at transforming it into a lively waterfront locale centered around creativity and urban lifestyle. This new masterplan envisions d3 as a harmonious community that integrates living, working, and socializing environments.
Positioned strategically between Downtown Dubai and Dubai Creek, the newly extended district spans approximately 18 million square feet. The initiative combines housing, cultural venues, retail options, hospitality, and beautifully landscaped public spaces, offering a well-balanced lifestyle and work environment. This expansion responds to the increasing demand for design-oriented, well-connected waterfront living, appealing to both local and international investors.
One standout feature of this masterplan is the “Design Line,” a shaded, pedestrian-friendly pathway that flows through the core of the district. This central route is intended to promote pedestrian engagement and community interaction, enriched with public art, creative installations, green pathways, and communal areas. It ties together various sections of d3 while enhancing its identity as one of Dubai’s most design-centric locales.
Sustainability remains a priority in this vision. The development aspires to achieve LEED Silver community certification, with initiatives focusing on energy-efficient designs, eco-friendly transportation, and fostering connections to nature. The layout includes connections to Dubai Creek and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, introducing a natural aspect to the urban landscape.
The revamped d3 will consist of five unique areas, each reflecting a distinct character. The canal-side section will showcase modern housing and boutique hospitality along a vibrant waterfront promenade. The urban center will blend living spaces with carefully curated retail and dining options, closely associated with d3’s existing creative enterprises. Another zone will serve as the cultural epicenter, featuring performance venues and mid-rise residences facing the d3 Bowl. A wellness-oriented area will provide residences amidst parks, sports amenities, and mangrove-like environments. The final section will emphasize creativity, housing galleries, studios, and loft spaces intended for artists and designers.
This expansion builds upon the strong growth currently observed in the district, with recent residential projects witnessing high levels of demand, such as the swift sell-out of the Atelis waterfront tower and the enthusiastic response to The Edit, a three-tower residential initiative offering design-focused homes.
With this extensive masterplan, the Dubai Design District is poised to become one of the most unique waterfront communities in Dubai, merging creative culture with everyday living and reinforcing the city’s role as a global nexus for design and innovation.
