In anticipation of the increased passenger flow during the Thingyan holiday, Myanmar Railways is expanding its train services. Special trains will supplement the regular operations on major routes, such as Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon–Pyay, and Yangon–Mawlamyine, ensuring enhanced connectivity across significant regions.
These additional services will run on select dates throughout April, adhering to fixed schedules crafted to meet peak travel demand. This initiative is designed to provide smooth travel for tourists, workers, and government employees heading home for the festive period.
Officials announced that the fares and station stops for these special trains will be kept on par with standard services, promoting affordability and accessibility, especially during the anticipated rush.
Travelers can expect improved booking options, as tickets will be available for purchase in advance at railway stations or via the Online Railway Ticketing and Payment System (ORTP), allowing for better journey planning and avoiding last-minute hassles.
To meet the demand, special trains will operate at full capacity, combining upper-class and ordinary coaches to significantly reduce overcrowding and enhance travel comfort during this peak time.
During the Thingyan festival's peak period from April 13 to 16, several regular passenger and commuter services will be briefly suspended. Authorities assured that this temporary measure is part of a comprehensive strategy to effectively manage resources and traffic.
Following the holiday, all train services will return to normal, reinstating full connectivity throughout Myanmar's railway network. Additionally, scenic train routes may be offered based on passenger interest, providing travelers with more choices during the festive season.
